Trailers of the Month

When he comes out of this grisly nightmare Nick panics, persuading his girlfriend, Lori, and their friends, Janet and Hunt, to leave... escaping seconds before Nick's frightening vision becomes a terrible reality. Thinking they've cheated death, the group has a new lease on life, but unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it is only the beginning. As his premonitions continue and the crash survivors begin to die one-by-one--in increasingly gruesome ways--Nick must figure out how to cheat death once and for all before he, too, reaches his final destination.

Starring: Bobby Campo, Shantel VanSanten, Nick Zano, Haley Webb, Mykelti Williamson
Directed by: David R. Ellis
U.S. Rating: R

I'm such a fan of the three previous movies, especially the second and third one. On these previous movies, everyone of them were attached to the first experience or movie, when they faced a similar situation and they got the complete information about how things happened and all the effects related with this situation, for example, the sequence of deaths, the things that would happen (showed in pictures, etc). The daily, usual activities that killed all these people in these previous movies gave its own trademark. Maybe I was expecting something different in this new sequel, especially because the name and trailer try to sell the idea that this new sequel will be "different" from the previous ones, it will be "The" Final Destination, that they will be able to break the death process. Well, I was totally wrong. It was just more of the same shown in the previous three movies, with just a big difference. It was way more predictable than the previous ones. Besides that, the cast wasn't able to offer the emotion and suspense, sense of horror that I was able to feel in the previous movies. Really cheap acting performance in some important scenes and moment through the movie, but well, I could at least say that I enjoyed it, it was good watching it at the movie theater though.

What did I like from this movie?

1. That it was filmed in 3D
2. The effects shown in some scenes were really good, especially when they were shown in 3D

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The cheap acting performance from most of the cast involved in this movie. For example, the moment when the security guard is trying to kill himself. When the guys find him in his room trying to die hung but the rope breaks and he falls in the floor and gets up and starts talking, walking and doing things like nothing happened... not even a single cough or feeling like chocking!
2. The guy that dies in the pool, his role sucked. The bad guy that doesn't care about anything, just like a similar guy in the second movie, the one that dies in the field cut by the wires. In this movie, this guy was "too much" obvious that was acting more than playing a role
3. The situations involved in every single death were a bit more exaggerated than any of the previous movies. In the previous three movies, every situation that led to every death looked like spontaneous mistakes and situations that provoked those deaths. In this movie, every situation looked like they were manipulated for an invisible person who managed every single mistake (real or not) to provoke these deaths

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Starring: Channing Tatum, Terrence Howard, Zulay Henao, Michael Rivera, Flaco Navaja (II)
Directed by: Dito Montiel
U.S. Rating: PG-13

A movie with an excellent cast. Terrence Howard played such a enjoyable role in this movie. Even though this movie is predictable and the fight scenes are just 3 major fight scenes, these scenes don't take more than just very few minutes each. The whole story is about the process of this small-town boy trying to survive in a metropolis like New york and how he gets deep in the underground world of illegal fighting while other people bet on these fights. I don't know if watching Fight Club and Fighting within the same week would affect my point of view about street fighting plots, and especially about this movie Fighting, since Fight Club made history in this kind of movies.

What did I like from this movie?

1. As said before, what I really enjoyed from this movie was Terrence Howard's role. He played such a really enjoyable role, even during the slow and boring moments through the movie, his role brought some really entertaining situations.

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Being a movie about street illegal fighting (the movie is even called "Fighting") there are only 3 major fights (and, these fights take no longer than just few minutes)

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Movie Review: Miss Congeniality 2

Wednesday, August 26, 2009 0 comments

Synopsis: FBI Agent Gracie Hart became an overnight media sensation after she successfully disarmed a threat against the Miss United States Pageant while working undercover as a contestant. But things haven't been going so well for her lately. Reeling from a broken romance and frustrated to find her newfound fame is jeopardizing the undercover work she loves, Gracie reluctantly let her boss, Agent McDonald, talk her into serving the Bureau in the only way now possible: coifed and styled for the talk show circuit as the face of the FBI. Capitalizing on the greatest PR coup in agency history, the FBI presses their new poster girl into a while of photos ops where she re-enacts her pageant exploits to an adoring public, with the help of her personal stylist Joel to smooth her rougher edges.

Starring: Sandra Bullock, Regina King, Enrique Murciano, William Shatner, Ernie Hudson
Directed by: John Pasquin
U.S. Rating: PG-13

Being such a fan of Sandra Bullock, I believe this sequel was not one of the best in her record. But, it wasn't her fault at all! The plot was a basic script that relies heavily on repeating gags from its predecessor, which I consider was way much better than this sequel. It brings some good laughs, but the plot was not able to offer good material for almost 2 hours. I started enjoying it at the beginning of the movie, some moments in the middle of the story, but definitely felt like the end didn't offer much, or it was just me getting really bored after (almost) 2 hours watching this movie.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The moment when Sandra is talking with the other agent at the airport and she says "You might consider a tic-tac"
2. Some scenes when she's tracing the people involved with the kidnapping

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. As said before, the plot was a basic script that relies heavily on repeating gags from its predecessor

Movie Review: The Devil's Tomb

Tuesday, August 25, 2009 0 comments

Synopsis: A team of mercenaries under the command of hard-charging war veteran Mack (Gooding Jr.), are contracted by a mysterious CIA operative named Elissa (Cruz) to rescue a scientist (Perlman) working on an archeological discovery deep under the Middle Eastern desert. With the help of a mysterious priest (Rollins), Mack and his team soon discover the true secret of what lies beneath the sands. A secret that has been protected for thousands of years. A secret that is not of this Earth

Starring: Cuba Gooding Jr, Taryn Manning, Valerie Cruz, Ray Winstone, Franky G
Directed by: Jason Connery
U.S. Rating: R

I personally don't know what's been wrong with Cuba Gooding Jr lately. All his most recent movies and roles couldn't ever be considered good enough for such a good actor. While I was watching this movie, I thought for a moment that I was watching a cheap version of Resident Evil, when a team commando is sent to a secret underground lab in the middle of the desert and they have to fight all these dead people. It might be a watchable movie for those lovers of war movies, even though, as I said, I think that Cuba Gooding Jr has lost his mojo lately with the most recent movies he's played in (except American Gangster).

What did I like from this movie?

1. What I liked from this movie is that I always love war/action/thriller movies, even though, the plot wasn't as good as I expected it to be, it was ok for a war movie.

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The whole disgusting thing about the dead zombies spitting the soldiers and friends, really grouse.

I would rate this movie with a 2/5

Directed by: Brian J. Bagley
U.S. Rating: R

First of all, how in the world, a naïve business journalist will have a face to face interview with a Lord of Drugs? For someone who has lived most of his life in South America, I know that this is almost impossible to do. You will certainly get either killed trying. You just need to read or watch documentaries about Pablo Escobar, the most famous and terrible Lord of Drugs that have ever lived so far. This people are not a celebrity or politician that you just go to their assistants or secretaries and set an appointment to talk with them! anyway, I watched this movie and I might have liked that they showed (just the very top of the iceberg!) some of the hundred, maybe thousand different ways that drug dealers try to move their merchandise. Also, how they try to show in this movie their evil actions toward anyone that interfere in their business.

What did I like from this movie?

1. As I mentioned before, I liked that hey showed (just the very top of the iceberg!) some of the hundred, maybe thousand different ways that drug dealers try to move their merchandise. Also, how they try to show in this movie their evil actions toward anyone that interfere in their business.

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. That it's so hard to believe a story about a naive business journalist will have a face to face interview with a Lord of Drugs.

Movie Review: The Reaping

Monday, August 24, 2009 0 comments

Synopsis: Katherine Winter doesn't believe in miracles--she believes in facts. A former minister, Katherine turned her back on the cloth after losing her young daughter and husband while doing missionary work in the Sudan, and now seeks answers through scientific investigation rather than prayer. As a university professor, she has become the foremost debunker of supposed miracles, called to sites all over the world to investigate weeping statues, wall stains resembling saints and palms that bleed. And so far, there is no divine mystery she hasn't solved. But when small-town schoolteacher Doug Blackwell seeks her help with a series of bizarre occurrences the townspeople believe to be sent by God, Katherine and her partner Ben come to learn that sometimes miracles can be treacherous, and the line between faith and superstition is dangerously thin. Hidden among the woods and swamplands of Louisiana, Haven is a town where the rules of reason seem to have been rewritten. A child has died and the river has turned to blood, which is only the beginning of what appears to be a revisiting of the Biblical ten plagues upon the town. For the first time in her professional career, Katherine can't explain these phenomena with science. The townspeople believe an enigmatic child named Loren McConnell has brought God's wrath to their doorstep, but what they see as a harbinger of evil, Katherine sees as a lost child needing her help. The more she is drawn into the dark heart of the mystery, the more Katherine discovers her own role in a conspiracy that threatens to shroud the world in darkness.

Starring: Hilary Swank, Anna-Sophia Robb, David Morrissey, Idris Elba, Stephen Rea
Directed by: Stephen Hopkins
U.S. Rating: R

A good horror/thriller movie. I really enjoyed the plot, since the end reveals things that I wasn't expecting at all, especially related with the whole situation about the girl and the deaths. Hilary Swank plays a great role in this movie, giving life to this doctor who tries to find the responses and reasons for all the scary and bizarre situations faced by this little town in Louisiana. The little girl also plays such a good role, along with the rest of the cast in this movie. I definitely recommend this good horror/thriller to all those lovers of horror movies, or those lovers of Hilary Swank's work.

What did I like from this movie?

1. I really enjoyed that Hilary Swank, in her role, tries to keep her position and vision, finding the reasons to all these situations through scientific facts, and not by miracles and other mysterious situations.
2. It actually had some good effects. For example, the insects attacks, the fire explosions, etc.

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The end was a little bit theatrical, lots of fire explosions, they should have kept it the same way it was through all the movie, but the end was ok though.

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Synopsis: Nathan is about to get married, but not before his buddies Z-Bog, Eli, Ash, and Johnny throw him a wild bachelor party bash in Las Vegas.

Starring: Kal Penn, Jonathan Bennett, Donald Faison, Vincent Pastore, Marisa Petroro
Directed by: Eric Bernt
U.S. Rating: R

Bachelor Party Vegas, an entertaining movie for all those who love this kind of bachelor, college kind of guys movie in Vegas. This plot brings some funny situations and scenes, where Nathan (Kal Penn) and his friends travel to Las Vegas to celebrate his bachelor party. From the very first moment when they're trying to take their flight to Las Vegas, they have to face weird and bizarre situations, including being related with a casino robbery. At the end, we find that most of the crazy different situations were all related and there's some kind of boring message about friendship. Anyway, a movie that I could consider a good option for a Sunday afternoon, if you have nothing else to do and want to have some (trivial) laughs.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The scene when they found the porn movie studio and one of the girls' boyfriend (with his biker fiends)get to the studio and want to hurt anyone that is with his girl
2. The moment when they're running from these bikers and find the "Elvis" woman with the spaguetti pool
3. When the limousine with the chunky strippers stops and give them a ride, but few minutes later they're dropped in the middle of the street because the girls asked them to show them their willies and they were "too small"

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The end was a little bit boring of unexpected, when the bachelor party organizer gives the speech about friendship and shows them that every single situation they had to face was part of the party (well, this was actually ok)

I would rate this movie with a 2/5

Synopsis: At the Forest Ridge Mall, head of security Ronnie Barnhardt patrols his jurisdiction with an iron fist, combating skateboarders, shoplifters and the occasional unruly customer while dreaming of the day when he can swap his flashlight for a badge and a gun. His delusions of grandeur are put to the test when the mall is struck by a flasher. Driven to protect and serve the mall and its patrons, Ronnie seizes the opportunity to showcase his underappreciated law enforcement talents on a grand scale, hoping his solution of this crime will earn a coveted spot at the police academy and the heart of his elusive dream girl Brandi, the hot make-up counter clerk who won't give him the time of day. But his single-minded pursuit of glory launches a turf war with the equally competitive Detective Harrison of the Conway Police, and Ronnie is confronted with the challenge of not only catching the flasher, but getting him before the real cops do.

Starring: Seth Rogen, Ray Liotta, Michael Pena, Anna Faris, Dan Bakkedahl
Directed by: Jody Hill
U.S. Rating: R

I could say that I compare this movie with Me, Myself & Irene (in some way). Maybe because of the bi-polar cop role. The only difference is that in this movie, Seth Rogen plays a much drama kinda guy. I really enjoyed the plot, a good movie for a weekend night at home. The movie offered a good cast and plot, since it brings comedy from some actors that I've never seen in a comedy role before, for example, Michael Pena (which I consider a good actor, for example, in Shooter).

What did I like from this movie?

1. The interview moments, when he seriously take as an offense being called "security guard"
2. The scene when they bit the crap out of the kids skating in the parking lot
3. The moment when Seth is left in this gang neighborhood and he appears later with the kid after kicking everyone's butts and he gets motivated to go for the Police test

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The final scene when the pervert is running naked in the mall, too much!

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Synopsis: Based on a true story, Frank W. Abagnale was employed as a doctor, a lawyer, and as a co-pilot for a major airline company's all before reaching his 21st birthday. A successful con artist and master of deception, Frank is also a brilliant forger, whose skill at check fraud has netted him millions of dollars in stolen funds--much to the chagrin of the authorities. FBI Agent Carl Hanratty has made it his prime mission to capture him and bring him to justice, however Frank is always one step ahead of Carl, baiting him to continue the chase.

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks, Christopher Walken, Martin Sheen, Nathalie Baye
Directed by: Steven Spielberg
U.S. Rating: PG-13

I really love movies based on true stories, and I personally believe that the story of Frank W. Abagnale is TOTALLY amazing. This man was a piece of art! I saw a TV show here in the UK about scams programs and one of the episodes from this show presented a scam used by Abagnale many years ago. He told the guys that when the movie was being filmed at the airport, he worked on a scam just to tease people and it was totally amazing how he fooled people and got their money. The guys applied it here in the UK and it worked also. He's definitely a genius about scam programs and falsifications. Anyway, the plot is basically about his life. I felt too much Hollywood style included in the plot. No matter what, I still loved the movie, and as I said, the story of this guy.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The way he played all his fake roles in life and especially, the way he practiced and learned about it.
2. It was really funny when he tries to be a lawyer, learning from TV movies
3. The way he's captured. It wasn't enough the planes in the bathroom, he already had a mass production of check books!
4. So good the way everything turned at the end in his life and movie, being offered to work for the FBI, instead of being in jail

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. As I said, it had too much Hollywood style, instead of making it more real or like a movie-documentary about this guy's life.

I would rate this movie with a 4/5

Synopsis: Dewey Finn is a hell-raising guitarist with delusions of grandeur. Kicked out of his band and desperate for work, Dewey impersonates a substitute teacher and turns a class of fifth grade high-achievers into high-voltage rock and rollers. The private school's uptight and skeptical head, Principal Mullins, watches on as the 'new sub' preps the kids for Battle of the Bands.

Starring: Jack Black, Joan Cusack, Mike White, Sarah Silverman, Joey Gaydos
Directed by: Richard Linklater
U.S. Rating: PG-13

One of my favorite movies. I believe it's one of the best (if not the best!) movies with Jack Black. Jack Black brings such a fresh and really funny role to this plot full of different situations, when Jack, being a frustrated musician and looser gets a temp job impersonating a substitute teacher (his roommate!). He inmediately turns his class in a complete rock band, including really hilarious situations, until the very last moment when they have they're great presentation in a rock band contest. I've watched this movie like 10 times so far and never get tired of it!

What did I like from this movie?

1. At the beginning, when he's playing with his band and jumps from the platform to the public and they don't catch him
2. When he's teaching his first lessons during his first day at work, changing all the rules and doing absolutely nothing, just waiting for the time to go home, while the kids are expecting him to teach them and give them some homework. Then, the second day he finds out the music talent of every kid in his class... the rest is history.
3. The whole situation when he's being busted and has to leave the job as substitute teacher, including with the next morning, when they play at the rock band contest.

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. I know Jack Black loves to sing, but I believe that the success of this movie motivated him to work on his next movie: Tenacious D, which I expected to be as good as this one, but honestly, it sucked. I believed because of the cast working with him.

I would rate this movie with a 4/5

Synopsis: Andy Dufresne, a mild mannered New England banker, is convicted of murdering his wife and her lover. Despised at first by the other inmates because of his introverted manner, Andy slowly forges an unlikely friendship with Red, a seasoned lifer and his gang. Soon, Andy also becomes popular with the prison guards, including the vicious Captain Hadley who offers him protection against the jail's rougher convicts in exchange for financial counseling. The prison warden also takes advantage of Andy's banking knowledge by exchanging privileges for creative bookkeeping. Over a twenty year period, Andy is able to maintain his sanity and dignity in prison not by physical force but by mental force. His smarts and confidence keep him going and he is able to teach the other prisoners that hope is the ultimate means of survival.

Starring: Tim Robbins, Morgan Freeman, Bob Gunton, William Sadler, Clancy Brown
Directed by: Frank Darabont
U.S. Rating: R

One of my top favorite movies of all time. Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman were the perfect team for such an amazing plot. I could say that two of my top favorite movies of all times are based on a plot in a jail (the other one is The Last Castle with Robert Redford). The plot brings the amazing story of this man who seems to be a quiet, shy nobody who takes the best opportunities and wisely gets the best of his qualities and profession to get the Jail's director and some other guards favors. At the end of the movie, he not just touches other convicts lives, brings some great benefits to the Jail, but makes the Jail's director look like the perfect fool! Totally recommended!

What did I like from this movie?

1. The opportunity when he gets the money for the library. After getting the news, he just gets in the office and plays classical movie like a mad man!
2. The way he plans his escape, no matter how long it would take him to do it

What did I dislike from this movie?

He should have fooled the guards too! not just the Jail's director!

I would rate this movie with a 5/5

Synopsis: The extraordinary battle for the future of humankind through the eyes of one American family fighting to survive it. Ray Ferrier is a divorced dockworker and less-than-perfect father. Soon after his ex-wife and her new husband drop of his teenage son Robbie and young daughter Rachel for a rare weekend visit, a strange and powerful lightning storm touches down.

Starring: Tom Cruise, Dakota Fanning, Miranda Otto, Justin Chatwin, Tim Robbins
Directed by: Steven Spielberg
U.S. Rating: PG-13

One of my favorite movies. Steven Spielberg brings such a great master piece to the big screen. A plot loaded with amazing effects and great sound. All the cast involved offered such a great content, even though, this movie has received lots of critic. Considered to be in the list of the top blockbuster movies, many people have written lots of critics about some errors and incongruency on some scenes, like the first ones during the first attack, when all electronic equipments stopped working, but some people were taking pictures and video taping the attack, or at the end of the movie when Tom Cruise reunites with his family in a city in Boston where nothing was destroyed and his family looked like they were just worried waiting for them (after such a desolation and deadly traumatic and horrible situation). Anyway, I liked the movie, no matter these discrepancies, I totally recommend it.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The effects on this movie, simply amazing!
2. The situation when Tom Cruise and his daughter are in this basement with Tim Robbins and they're visited by the machine arms and some aliens
3. It was good the beginning, when they're about to be attacked after the lightnings and how Tom Cruise is such a coward, being scared of it
4. Really liked the camera effects when they're running away driving in the van

What did I dislike from this movie?

A little bit too long, that's at least how I felt, that it would get really boring if the movie would take 5 more minutes longer.

I would rate this movie with a 4/5

Synopsis: A group of friends go on a weekend getaway to an eccentric Uncle's private island. When they arrive and find the Uncle missing, they encounter the island’s other inhabitants--dogs. Dozens of them, roaming the wild in feral packs. The group soon discovers that the canines possess a scary, almost preternatural intelligenc--and a ferocious appetite to match.

Starring: Michelle Rodriguez, Taryn Manning, Oliver Hudson, Hill Harper, Eric Lively
Directed by: Nicholas C. Mastandrea
U.S. Rating: R

The first time I read the synopsis about this movie, I thought it could be interesting, even though, I knew it would be just another movie like dozens of similar movies recorded in the past with rats, birds, snakes, monsters and even dead or crazy people. I thought it would be ok, having someone like Michelle Rodriguez. The fact is that the plot was so cheap, predictable and boring that I decided to watch it until the end just to see if it could get any worse than I thought after watching the first half of the movie. A bunch of guys get to this private island and get chased by a bunch of mad dogs. They try to leave and dogs don't let them. They thing is that they try to leave the island with just a arch and some arrows, they try to run away driving a car but they do it with all the windows and roof opened (and of course... the dogs try to jump inside the car), the guy with the arch is really good with it, and some other lame scenes. Totally recommended for a Sunday afternoon after checking that you have run out of movies, things to do, and you're not planning to leave home and you're not tired enough to take a nap (you might want to take a nap after watching it!).

What did I like from this movie?

Hmmm... that it kept my attention until the end of the movie (which was totally predictable!), even though, I watched it until the end, as I said, to see if it was worse than I expected after watching the first half.

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. How predictable it was
2. The moment when the guy with the arch tries to kill the dog that is attacking one of the girls and the arrow gets stuck in the girl's leg! It was so lame that I considered it actually really funny!

I would rate this movie with a 2/5

Synopsis: On the surface, Saya is a stunning 16-year old girl, but that youthful exterior hides the tormented soul of a 400 year-old "halfling." When she is sent to an American military base in Tokyo by the clandestine organization for whom she works, Saya immediately senses that this may be her opportunity to finally destroy Onigen, the evil patriarch of all vampires. Using her superhuman strength and her sword, she begins to rid the base of its evil infestation in a series of spectacular and elaborate showdowns. However, it is not until she forms her first human friendship in centuries with the young daughter of the base's general that Saya learns her greatest power over Onigen may well be her ability to make a human connection.

Directed by: Chris Nahon
U.S. Rating: R

I have not much to say about this movie. I wasn't expecting something different or that I could consider to be interesting about the plot, but it was completely predictable and really dark and boring. Just another cheap movie about Vampire hunters, I could compare this movie with Wesley Snipes' Blade Trilogy, the only difference is that in this movie, is a young chinese girl, instead of a black american guy.

What did I like from this movie?

1. Some few effects. That's all I liked from this movie.

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. As I said, it's a dark, boring and predictable plot.
2. The director tried to use the moves and effects used in some fighting scenes in movies like Crunching Tiger, Hero, etc.

Synopsis: During World War II a group of Jewish-American soldiers known as "The Basterds" are chosen specifically to spread fear throughout the Third Reich by scalping and brutally killing Nazis. The Basterds soon cross paths with a French-Jewish teenage girl who runs a movie theater in Paris which is targeted by the soldiers.

Starring: Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, BJ Novak, Diane Kruger, Martin Wuttke, Christoph Waltz, Rodney Turt Taylor, Quentin Tarantino
Directed by: F. Gary Gray
U.S. Rating: R

Should I start this short review saying that Quentin Tarantino is a mix of a psycho, weirdo and genious! I have watched most of his previous movies and wouldn't expect anything less that his personal touch and vision. As in his remarkable work as a director and producer in movies like Kill Bill I & II, Pulp Fiction, From Dust Till Dawn, Hostel, Sin City, Grindhouse, I knew that his personal touch in vision in history would turn this movie about the WWII a turn side-down, this time, as shown in the plot, where the hunters became the hunted. Who could ever think of making a movie about Nazis and Jews during WWII and create, produce and direct a plot where the Jews would kill hundreds of German Nazis and especially, Hitler! Only Tarantino! I laughed because even though my wife was excited to go and watch this movie, she never watched a movie directed or produced by Tarantino in the past... so she never knew how graphic he was on his images and scenes, especially on those ones involved with violent events. Great plot, interesting point of view of history and what an amazing cast! Totally recommended!

What did I like from this movie?

1. Totally enjoyed the role played by Christoph Waltz (Col Hans Landa). I laughed about his weird-psycho role and the turn around at the end of the movie. I totally believed he'd die... one way or another! Definitely the best role played in this movie.
2. I really enjoyed Tarantino's personal touch. As well as he did it with his two great movies Kill Bill, I really enjoyed the weird way to play the movie, by chapters! And how he went back on every individual's stories.
3. The scene at the bar, one of the great and funny ones.
4. Not mentioning Brad Pitt's role... amazing and funny. It was really funny when he was talking/interviewing the german actress, as well as the scene at the theater, when he was trying to talk Italian!
5. The french girl (owner of the cinema) played a really good role also.
6. I really enjoyed the way how Tarantino envolved so many different languages, keeping that personal touch of history in this movie.

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. I was expecting the french girl, Shosanna Dreyfus (Mélanie Laurent) , to see all the Germans dying by fire at her movie theater.
2. So disgusting the moment when they're cutting the hair off the dead Germans!

I would rate this movie with a 5/5

Movie Review: Adventureland

Sunday, August 16, 2009 0 comments

Synopsis: Welcome to Adventureland, where the worst job imaginable is about to inadvertently turn into the summer that changes everything. Adventureland, a self-professedly 'funtastic' Pennsylvania amusement park, appears to be the bane of recent college graduate's James Brennan's existence. He previously had big plans to spend the summer on a life-altering trek through Europe that would initiate him into real adult life. But when his family suffers an economic downturn in the middle of the Reagan 80s, James' only summer trip is straight to a minimum wage job manning a game booth so existentially bankrupt, no one is even allowed to win the giant stuffed panda. Yet, Adventureland isn't quite what it seems on the surface. For behind the cloying cotton candy aroma, the grating disco songs and the near pathological customers, there's a whole other world of misfit friends, hidden dreams and most incredibly, after-work encounters with the alluringly sharp-tongued arcade girl, Em Lewin. And when James discovers the hard-won courage to go to battle for Em, the result is a savagely funny yet sweetly heart-felt and unexpected encounter with 'real adult life'.

Starring: Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Martin Starr, Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig
Directed by: Greg Mottola
U.S. Rating: R

A very slow movie. I expected it to have more comedy that it actually had, since the trailers tried to make it look like a summer comedy. It had some really funny scenes and moments, some drama and romantic situations, but I could expect more from it. Maybe I was expecting the plot to be a school dumb comedy and this was more a drama/romantic plot with some comedy scenes. Ryan Reynolds, I don't know... his professional performance is like waves, he works in some really funny and great movies, or big movies like Wolverine, and then he plays roles like the mechanic who fixes things in a local theme park and likes to cheat on his wife but, he's a really good guy at the same time... no comments. And finally, I haven't finally decided to watch Twilight. I know it's been a huge success, but I've never felt the desire to watch it. I might do it one of these days. I brought the Twilight comment, since it seems to be Kristen Stewart's most important credit, being the second role in this movie, but oh boy, she sucks as an actress!

What did I like from this movie?

1. The way the park's manager runs his park, no comments! really funny
2. The scene when Jesse Eisenberg is called the boner after kissing Kristen Steward in the pool
3. I kinda liked the end of the movie, how the guy after trying to save money for his school in NY moves to NY with no money, just trying to find the girl he wants

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Kristen Stewart, she sucks as an actress
2. Ryan Reynolds, a crappy role after being in some recent great movies
3. The story says that it is in the 80s, but noone dresses like being in the 80's only the music played in this movie is from the 80's

I would rate this movie with a 2/5

Synopsis: As Hannah Montana's popularity begins to take over her life, Miley Stewart, on the urging form her father, takes a trip to her hometown of Crowley Corners, Tennessee to get some perspective on what matters in life the most.

Starring: Miley Cyrus, Billy Ray Cyrus, Emily Osment, Jason Earles, Mitchel Tate Musso
Directed by: Peter Chelsom
U.S. Rating: G

Definitely a movie for kids, it was too much for me. Even though, my wife loved it. I haven't watched any episodes of this Disney's series, even though, my wife said Hanah Montana is huge in the US. Most of the reviews I've read about this movie say that this movie is little more than a formulaic Disney Channel episode stretched thin.

What did I like from this movie?

1. It was ok, not as boring as I would expect it to be

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Tyra Banks in a shoe fight at a kids movie... low! (for her).

I would rate this movie with a 2/5

Movie Review: The Ugly Truth

Saturday, August 15, 2009 0 comments

Synopsis: Abby Richter is a romantically challenged morning show producer whose search for Mr. Perfect has left her hopelessly single. She's in for a rude awakening when her bosses team her with Mike Chadway, a hardcore TV personality who promises to spill the ugly truth on what makes men and women tick.

Starring: Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butler, Eric Winter, John Michael Higgins, Nick Searcy
Directed by: Robert Luketic
U.S. Rating: R

Well, I didn't plan to go and watch this movie this last weekend. I initially planned to go and watch Infamous Basterds. My wife got to choose the movie we went to watch, so you know which movie she would choose! Even though we finally watched a girly movie, it was a funny and really entertaining movie. I really liked the plot, especially Gerard Butler's role, the macho man who doesn't care about what people think about him. I think Katherine Heigl is ok as an actress, nothing special or different from other actresses, but at least I can say that she looked good and did a good job in this movie. It was a good plot, with som really funny situations and scenes, as well as some good romantic moments. A good recommendation for couples who want to enjoy a romantic/comedy movie.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The situation with the panties and the sexual toy, a really funny scene
2. The first shows with the new anchor (Gerard Butler) and his controversial conversations and women's fight

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The scene when they're having a discussion while they're in the globe, it was so obvious that was a fake scenario that really made it look bad

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Synopsis: A random wrong number on his cell phone sends a young man into a high-stakes race against time to save a woman’s life. With no knowledge of Jessica Martin other than her hushed, panicked voice on the other end of the tenuous cell phone connection, Ryan is quickly thrown into a world of deception and murder on his frantic search to find and save her.

Starring: Kim Basinger, Chris Evans, William H. Macy, Jason Statham, Dat Phan
Directed by: David Richard Ellis
U.S. Rating: PG-13

I really enjoyed this movie and its plot. A random call brings a complete race against the clock to save a woman's life after being kidnapped. It's a plot that offers some really good action and drama situations, as well as some funny scenes. I'd recommend the movie. I've watched a few times and never get tired of it.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The situation with the phone charger at the Cell Phone Expo
2. The moment when he gets the Porsche after getting the call mixed between lines

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Kim Basinger SUCKED in this movie. She seemed so fake in her role, didn't like her work in this movie.
2. The Ricky Martin situation at the school, so dumb!

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Synopsis: Sean Boswell is an outsider who attempts to define himself as a hot-headed, underdog street racer. Although racing provides a temporary escape from an unhappy home and the superficial world around him, it has also made Sean unpopular with the local authorities. To avoid jail time, Sean is sent to live with his gruff, estranged father, a career military-man stationed in Tokyo. Now officially a gaijin (outsider), Sean feels even more shut out in a land of foreign customs and codes of honor. But it doesn't take long for him to find some action when a fellow American buddy, Twinkie, introduces him to the underground world of drift racing. Sean's simple drag racing gets replaced by a rubber-burning, automotive art form with an exhilarating balance of speeding and gliding through a heart-stopping course of hairpin turns and switchbacks. On his first time out drifting, Sean unknowingly takes on D.K., the "Drift King," a local champ with ties to the Japanese crime machine Yakuza. Sean's loss comes at a high price tag when he's forced to work off the debt under the thumb of ex-pat, Han. Han soon welcomes Sean into this family of misfits and introduces him to the real principles of drifting. But when Sean falls for D.K.'s girlfriend, Neela, an explosive series of events is set into motion, climaxing with a high stakes face off.

Starring: Lucas Black, Shad 'Bow Wow' Gregory Moss, Nathalie Kelley, Sung Kang, Jason Tobin
Directed by: Justin Lin
U.S. Rating: PG-13

Another sequel with a plot full of hot cars, street and drift racing. I wasn't really motivated to go and watch this new sequel, due to the cast. For all the Fast and the Furious saga fans, we all know that these movies need Paul Walker and Vin Diesel in it to make it real. Even though, Vin Diesel appears in this movie during the last 30 seconds, it was not the same. I liked the plot, it was interesting, even though, I didn't feel any chemistry with the main role. No matter what, it was an entertaining movie, not as good as the two previous movies, but at least helped people to tie nods with the most recent movie recently released in the movie theaters.

What did I like from this movie?

1. All the stunts and drifting racing scenes

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. As I said, didn't like the guy playing the main role in this movie, I didn't feel the charisma needed, maybe because I compared him with Pal Walker's roles in the two previous movies

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Synopsis: Two South Miami cops, Mike Lowrey, a wild bachelor and Marcus Burnett, a family man, must find $100 million in stolen heroin before their department is shut down. In a race against time, detectives Burnett and Lowrey track a master thief into the Miami underworld, dodging bullets and bad guys along the way. A sexy witness can identify the thief, but when she calls the station, she'll only talk to Lowry--and he's not around. Acting quickly, Burnett impersonates his partner to take the call, but there's only one catch: He has to pretend to be Lowrey for the duration of the case or risk losing her trust. Now, between shoot-outs and car chases, married man Burnett has to stick close to their only eye witness while playboy Lowrey goes home to his partner's wife and kids, maintaining the charade until the case is solved.

Starring: Martin Lawrence, Will Smith, Téa Leoni, Theresa Randle, Tcheky Karyo
Directed by: Michael Bay, Ken Bates
U.S. Rating: R

Bad Boys is the kind of action movies I like. Will Smith and Martin Lawrence make the perfect couple to bring action and comedy in just one great plot. These two cops from the Miami Police Departments are more than just companions and co-workers, they're brothers and stand up for each other. The problem is that because of their friendship and professional relationship, they get into some bizarre situations, bringing some unexpected situations that will let you enjoy your movie and have a great time.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The final scene when the Porsche and Corvette are racing at the airport, great cars!
2. The scene at the house in the white neighborhood, when they enter in this house and find the dead guy
3. The scene when they're driving the truck full of inflammable liquid, the explosions, the TV cameras and Martin Lawrence finds out that he's not in another city as he said

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. I really like Téa Leoni, she looks great in this movie, but she seems too slow in this movie. I mean, while the two guys are all about comedy and action, she's not in tune with them

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Funny movie! It has become in a classic for every Christmas. My wife makes me crazy every single Christmas just because she wants to watch this movie almost every single day! Well, it's a really funny Christmas movie for all the family members. Will Ferrell plays as the human raised by Santa and he's being treated as an elf, even though, everything shows him that something is wrong with him, since he's different from any other elf, starting with his height! He decides to go to New York City and meet his real father, who doesn't remember him and is too busy to pay attention to his visit. A really funny plot.

What did I like from this movie?

1. Every single scene when he tries to contact his dad
2. The funniest scene, when he calls elf the famous writer (who's a midget)
3. The moment when his dad takes him to work in the mailing room and he turns the room into a big party

I expected this sequel for years! This new plot was loaded with great effects and amazing action scenes, as well as some really funny situations. If you haven't watched this movie, you're missing a hell of an action-comedy movie. Martin Lawrence and Will Smith bring a new sequel loaded with new situations about their friendship and professional relationship, mixed with some other bizarre situations in their personal lives as well as the case they're working on. Definitely a MUST, if you haven't watched it yet.

3. The car persecution with the Ferrari, explosions, accidents, TV cameras, etc.

Movie Review: Be Cool

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 0 comments

Synopsis: Streetwise mobster-turned-movie producer Chili Palmer is back, but this time Chili has abandoned the fickle movie industry and veered into the music business, tangling with Russian mobsters and gangsta rappers and taking a talented, feisty young singer named Linda Moon under his wing. From the recording studio to an Aerosmith concert to the MTV Music Awards, he manipulates events to watch them play out the Chili way, using his signature blend of wiseguy skills and negotiation tactics. It's a dangerous business, and everyone's looking for their next big hit.

Starring: John Travolta, Uma Thurman, Vince Vaughn, Cedric The Entertainer, Andre 'Andre 3000' Benjamin, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson
Directed by: F. Gary Gray
U.S. Rating: PG-13

Such a really entertaining cast and plot. This sequel from the movie Get Shorty, brings a new whole different view of show business, when Chili Palmer, after being a loanshark in Miami and being involved in the movie business in Los Angeles, moves on and jumps into the music business because he wants to escape from the bureaucracy faced in the movie business. This time, Chili is the manager on Linda Moon, a girl with a super voice and talent, the girl that will bring millions to everyone involved, and everyone wants a piece of it! Russians, rap gangstas, music producers, hit men, even Aerosmith will get involved in such a hilarious plot where everything and anything could happen. I totally recommend it for a good laugh.

What did I like from this movie?

1. Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, one of the funniest characters in this plot. A strong bodyguard who wants to be an actor and as far as we know... is gay! The Rock plays such a hilarious role in this movie. I totally laughed when he's trying his red boots on
2. Vince Vaughn, the white boy that thinks that is black! really funny
3. Cedric the Entertainer, the Rap Mogul, a high educated man, and his Rap Gangstas
4. The Russian mafia and the hit men, really funny moments with these guys

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. They could have leave a lead for a sequel in the future

I would rate this movie with a 4/5
