Movie Review: Prom

Wednesday, October 26, 2011 0 comments

Synopsis: A group of teenagers find their lives intersecting and their futures taking shape as they prepare for the most pivotal event of their high school careers. At first Nova Prescott is infuriated at a classmate who nearly destroys her plans for prom. But the closer the big day gets, the more she realizes that he may be the perfect date. Meanwhile, secretive seniors Tyler and Mei wrestle with the consciences over how to make the most of their big night as the rest of their classmates attempt to reconcile their explosive anticipation with their growing uncertainty over how the dance will ultimately pan out.
Starring: Aimee Teegarden, Thomas McDonell, DeVaughn Nixon, Danielle Campbell, Yin Chang
Directed by: Joe Nussbaum
U.S. Rating: PG

I think that teenage and prom romantic/comedy/drama films are just like a Russian roulette. You will be lucky if you ever find a good one that would succeed the expectations. You will either find that these films are either extremely dumb or extremely cheesy. In this particular case, I'd say that it combines not just these two things but also, a poor acting performance.

I'm not attracted to these kind of dumb, cheesy teenage films. I particulary find them too childish and boring, but being a well promoted film while it was on theaters, I decided to give it a try on DVD. Well, I must confess that I actually watched the whole film. It was not because it was a pretty good, entertaining and interesting film, but because it was so bad, so cheesy that I felt so motivated to keep watching it. It was like a drug! I felt like being a junkie, in need of this drug, that even though I knew it would be extremely bad for my mental health, I couldn't stop watching it.

I must admit that as soon as the film finished, I went to bed and started laughing and discussed it with my wife Mary, since she would understand me. If there's someone who loves cheesy movies, that's her! She watched the first 3o minutes of the film and she recognized it it was too cheesy for her taste. So there you go, you might have an idea of how it was.

Anyway, if you'd like to know more about the film, here's the plot:

Prom brings the story of school teenagers Nova, Mei, Ali, Brandon, Lloyd, Simone, Lucas, Justin, Jordan, Jesse, Tyler, Tess and Rolo. Nova is the class president and she has a crush on Brandon. She hopes he will ask her to prom.

Meanwhile, Lloyd, the "invisible" guy at school, is complaining about prom to his stepsister, Tess because he has no date but she encourages him to just ask someone. Elsewhere at the school, Tyler is confronted by his girlfriend, Corey, Jordan, who assumes he is cheating on her due to the single gold earring she finds in his car. He assures her this is not the case, and Jordan believes him.

"Bad boy" Jesse Richter has been missing school lately and showing other "unacceptable" behavior, such as riding his motorcycle on school grounds. Principal Dunnan has a talk with him, but is not satisfied with Jesse's attitude. Mei learns she has been accepted into Parsons, which conflicts with the plans she made with her boyfriend, Justin, of going to the University of Michigan together. She is stressed about this and becomes irritable as prom approaches, which she agrees to go with Justin. Sophomore Lucas is attracted to Simone, his lab partner, who he tries to get with the help of his friend Corey.

That night, Tyler takes Jordan to the school's shed, which he has decorated with many candles, to ask her to prom, and she agrees. When they leave the shed, however, they forget to put out a single candle. The shed catches fire and burns down. The next day, a devastated Nova, with no decorations and only three weeks to prom, asks her friends for extra help to pull the dance off, which they all back out of, each listing their own reason.

Principal Dunnan, seeing her dilemma, has an idea, and forces Jesse to help her for Prom, or he cannot graduate. Although Nova and Jesse both are unhappy with this situation, they comply anyway. At school, Lloyd is having trouble finding a date, even with the help of his sister. As one thing goes wrong after another, Lloyd loses confidence and becomes frustrated.

Later at home, Brandon shows up at Nova's house to tell her he cannot take her to prom, and that she will have to find another date. As the date becomes closer to prom, Nova and Jesse grow closer while working together.

During lacrosse practice, Tyler invites Lucas to the team barbecue, and tells him to invite a girl. Lucas decides to ask Simone, which she agrees to. At Tyler's barbecue, Tyler tries to make a move on Simone, only to be rejected by her. It is made clear they have a history. Simone tells Lucas that if she had known it was Tyler's barbecue, she would not have come. Mei's attitude is becoming worse and worse, and Justin believes she does not want to go to prom. He calls the date off, and Mei is left feeling very uncomfortable. One night, Nova finds out that the neighboring high school has the same theme for their prom as her own. Jesse suggests they take his motorcycle to go check out the other school's decorations, and she agrees. However, they are caught by the police, who call Nova's parents. Nova's father is infuriated with Jesse and insults him.

At school, Lucas is blowing off Corey to spend more time with Simone, and asks her to study for the upcoming test with him, to which she agrees. However, as she is about to go to library, Simone is stopped by Tyler, who convinces her to talk with him. He tells her about his feelings for her. Jordan sees the two talking and immediately grasps the situation.

After school, Nova apologizes to Jesse for her dad's behavior. Later, she takes him dress shopping. Back at school, Simone apologizes to Lucas for having ditched him. She has a surprise, tickets to a concert, where Stick Hippo (his and Corey's favorite band) is opening. Lucas wants to take Simone instead of Corey, much to Corey's dismay. Jordan dumps Tyler for his unfaithfulness, and decides to go to prom alone. This prompts him to ask Simone to prom, which is the same night as the concert, and she agrees. Simone tells Lucas that she is sorry, but she cannot go to the concert.

Mei apologizes to Justin for her behavior and tells him the truth, but instead of feeling hurt that she is going to a different college, he tells her he is proud of her. They agree that they should still go to prom together.

Lloyd spots Lucas sitting outside the school, looking dejected. He learns his situation, and tells Lucas his own mistake with girls and high school. Lloyd tells Lucas that if he really loves Simone, he should tell her.

Two nights before the prom, Nova, Ali, and Mei are in Nova's room, talking. Nova confesses to them that she has feelings for Jesse, which her dad unfortunately overhears. The next day, Nova's father tells Jesse he cannot ask Nova to prom, because he is "bringing her down". That afternoon, Jesse is unusually hostile towards Nova and deserts her.

On prom night, Lucas climbs a tree to reach Simone's window. He tells her how he feels and begs her not to go to prom, but she goes anyway. Disappointed, Lucas realizes what a bad friend he has been to Corey, and offers him the other concert ticket. The two head off to see their favorite band happily.

At her house, Nova is heartbroken, and refuses to pose for the camera in her prom dress. Her father, worried, explains that he was the one who told Jesse not to ask her to prom. Angered, Nova storms out of the house. Meanwhile, at Lloyd's house, it is revealed that he is taking his sister to prom. At Jesse's house, his mother has a talk with him, and he realizes that he should still take Nova to prom.

At the school, Tyler leads Simone into the building, and almost immediately abandons her. Simone finds out from a couple of girls that it was actually Jordan who dumped Tyler, and Tyler had gone to her with no other option. When Tyler asks her to dance (He was crowned prom king and Jordan queen) she refuses and leaves. She goes to the concert parking lot, where she waits for Lucas, and they share a dance.

Nova is having an awful time at prom, and when Ali tells her the fountain centerpiece is broken, she cannot take it anymore. As she is about to leave, she hears the fountain work again, and knows the only person who could have fixed it was Jesse. He walks up to her and asks her to prom. She agrees, and they dance and share a kiss.

I wasn't planning to vote for this film, but since the film was able to keep my attention and interest to watch it until the end, I'll give it some credit and will vote for it.

I would rate this movie with a 1/5

Movie Review: Piranha 3D

Wednesday, December 29, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: Every year the population of sleepy Lake Victoria explodes from 5,000 to 50,000 for Spring Break, a riot of sun and drunken fun. But this year, there's something more to worry about than hangovers and complaints from local old timers; A new type of terror is about to be cut loose on Lake Victoria. After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area's new razor-toothed residents.
Starring: Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott, Jerry O'Connell, Ving Rhames, Richard Dreyfuss
Directed by: Alexandre Aja
U.S. Rating: R

The first time I watched the trailer for "Piranha 3D", I couldn't stop thinking on the big success the original film had in 1978. Obviously, I didn't watch the film at that time, since I was just a young boy, but I heard a lot of it in the news and got all the comments from my brother and his friends. I totally thought they would try to just remake it and bring the best of 3D to give a great entertainment time.

The story is simple: It is Spring Break at Lake Victoria (Arizona). The local sheriff, Julie Forester,  is being pushed to her limits. She's being informed about the mysterious disappearance and death of a local, and at the same time, her town is being overrun by crazy unruly teenagers. She senses that there's something dangerous is lurking beneath the surface of the lake, but not even she suspects tof the horror waiting for them, mutant piranhas that are down there, waiting to fill up their bellies with all these crazy young people having wild fun under the sun in this lake. When they find the origins of this mysterious death and the great danger they're facing in this lake, they start a race against time to get everyone out of the water and find a way to kill these mutant piranhas. What she doesn't expect is that her 18-year-old son, Jake,  who was supposed to be at home watching his younger sister and brother, is in the lake, stuck in a sinking boat with his younger brother, sister and girlfriend.

I was totally wrong. To be honest, I don't know what to think about the film. More than being scared of these dangerous creatures and the horrifying situations, I couldn't stop laughing of what I was watching. I mean, the acting wasn't bad at all, it actually had a pretty good cast. My problem was with the content. It was actually gross. Man-eating fish, blood everywhere... and I mean lots and lots of blood!, nudity, even some  poor make-up and CGI scenes.

p.s.: What's up with the penis' scene? Was that really necessary?

So, if you were expecting an exciting thriller and scary plot, similar to the successful one 32 years ago, you'll be extremely disappointed.

I would rate this movie with a 2/5

Synopsis: It's the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson's Greek mythology texts and into his life. And they're not happy: Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy's mother. As Percy adapts to his newly discovered status as a demi-god (his father is Poseidon), he finds himself caught between the battling titans of Mt. Olympus. He and his friends embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief, save Percy's mom, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.

Starring: Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario, Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan
Directed by: Chris Columbus
U.S. Rating: PG

I'll try to be totally objective on this review. Harry Potter, sorry!... Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lighting Thief.

In a world where the Greek mythology gods and goddesses have kids with humans and they interact in between both worlds, Percy Jackson is Poseidon's son.

The story starts when Zeus and Poseidon meet at the top of the Empire State Building to discuss Zeus' missing lightning bolt, which he believes Percy, Poseidon's son, has stolen. Percy finds he can think best when underwater for 7 to 10 minutes at a time (of course, Poseidon was hs father and the god of the sea). His best friend is Grover, who is revealed as a sort of assistant demigod assigned to watch over him. His teacher is Mr. Brunner, who is actually Chiron, a centaur. (played by Pierce Brosnan) Percy thinks he is dyslexic, but it's only that his eyes instinctively turn English into Greek letters. After learning of his real identity, he goes off to Chiron's demigod training camp with Grover, and he becomes friends with Annabeth, a demi-goddess.

He loses his mother at the entrance of the camp and he decides to go to underground and help her to come back, after finding out that she lives and she's being kept there by Hades. He counts with the help of Annabeth and Grover. They will have to travel around the country trying to find three pearls which help them to return from hell once they get there. One of the best attractions among the gods is Medusa, played by Uma Thurman. She (and especially, her head) will play a key role in this film.

Everything rounds around the journey to underground and save his mother from hell. At the end, they have the chance to meet their parents (the gods) and go back to the camp, which I believe will be part of the future films related with this franchise and books.

What did I like from this movie?

1. I must be honest, the film brought some really amazing and entertaining CGI effects

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. It was like watching a lighter version of Harry Potter based in New York City. For those who don't know me, you should know that I'm an anti-Harry Potter person. I haven't read any of the books and have no intention of reading them in the future. I've watched 2 of the 6 films so far and I found them really boring. In fact, I felt asleep while I was watching one of them at the theater, something that never happened ever before! Yes, you might be saying... what?!?! But that's the truth. So, as I said, I felt like watching the American version of Harry Potter
2. The script and dialogues was really light and childish, ideally for kids
3. The cast performance wasn't as good as I'd expect from some of the great actors and actresses involved in this film

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Movie Review: Planet 51

Saturday, December 19, 2009 0 comments

Synopsis: American astronaut Captain Charles "Chuck" Baker, lands on Planet 51 thinking he's the first person to step foot on it. To his surprise, he finds that this planet is inhabited by little green people who are happily living in a white picket fence world reminiscent of a cheerfully innocent 1950s America, and whose only fear is that it will be overrun by alien invaders--like Chuck! With the help of his robot companion "Rover" and his new friend Lem, Chuck must navigate his way through the dazzling, but bewildering, landscape of Planet 51 in order to escape becoming a permanent part of the Planet 51 Alien Invaders Space Museum.

Starring: Dwayne Johnson, Gary Oldman, John Cleese, Lewis MacLeod, Emma Tate
Directed by: Jorge Blanco, Javier Abad, Marcos Martinez
U.S. Rating: PG

I should start saying that I really enjoyed the funny point of view of the plot... The astronaut that lands in Planet 51 thinking that he'd be the first person to step foot in it, but hey! he finds out that he's not the first person in that planet, but he's also considered as a dangerous alien who's coming to control and destroy the inhabitants of the planet. The inhabitants of Planet 51 suffer of a crazy Alien paranoia, thinking that they will arrive in any moment and will take control of their minds and planet. A pretty basic but charming and fresh plot that can be enjoyed by every single member of the family (I could say that adults would enjoyed it as much - or more! - than kids). Planet 51 offers such a CG animated quality image that could be compared with any amazing quality images from Pixar movies. Totally recommended for kids... and adults!

What did I like from this movie?

1. The CG animated images are simply amazing!
2. Great cast involved with the voices
3. The "alien" dog... my TOP favorite one! I totally laughed when the dog fooled the post man

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. I enjoyed the first half more than the second half. Maybe because it was so predictable

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

1. The costumes, characters, and magical world.
2. The story line

Movie Review: The Protector

Tuesday, October 13, 2009 0 comments

Synopsis: Kham's life is turned upside down when an international mafia syndicate, based in Australia, captures his two beloved elephants and smuggles them thousands of kilometers away to Sydney. The two elephants are far more than mere animals to Kham and his father; they are part of his family and were being prepared to be presented as a token of devotion to his Majesty the King of Thailand. The only way Kham can possibly save the animals is by venturing into a foreign land for the first time. Taking on a mafia group to rescue two elephants from a foreign country presents a huge challenge, even for a martial arts master like Kham. Despite the help of Sergeant Mark, a Thai police Sergeant based in Australia, and Pla, a Thai girl forced into modern day slavery, the going gets tough. They must take on the ruthless gang of Madame Rose, whose henchmen include Johnny, a Vietnamese thief and martial arts expert, and the hulking TK. Kham has no choice but to risk his own life for the animals he loves.

Starring: Tony Jaa, Petchtai Wongkamlao, Bongkot Kongmalai, Jin Xing, Johnny Nguyen
Directed by: Prachya Pinkaew
U.S. Rating: R

Honestly, I believe it's been over 10 years since I watched an amazing and unforgettable martial arts movie like this one. Forget about Jet Li, Jean Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal, Jackie Chan and any other famous actor related with martial arts movies. Tony Jaa is simply amazing! Such an amazing thai fighter. The Protector offers not just an interesting plot, but really amazing fight scenes! If you're looking for a relevant and entertaining movie loaded with amazing fighting scenes, then you definitely should consider The Protector.

What did I like from this movie?

1. I should say that ALL the fight scenes in this movie are simply amazing, but especially, the fight scene with the Capoeira fighter, the guy with the sword and the giant, as well as the fight scene at the end, when he's hurt with the knife while he's crying for the elephant and then fights like 50 guys. The whole scene is simple amazing! Another great fighting scene is the one at the restaurant, when he's going to the top, fighting everyone floor by floor

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The police detective, such a horrible actor!

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Movie Review: The Punisher

Synopsis: Frank Castle ia a man who has seen too much death in his life, first as a Delta Force Op and later as an FBI special agent. He has managed to beat considerable odds, and is finally moving out of the field and into a normal life with him wife, Maria, and young son, Will. However, on his final assignment, the operation spins out of control and a young man, Bobby Saint, is inadvertently killed. This places the FBI on the wrong side of Tampa businessman Howard Saint, his wife Livia, and their underworld ties. Inflamed by the death of their son, the Saints are on a mission of blood vengeance. Frank's worst nightmare comes true when Howard Saint and his lieutenants unleash hell at the Castle family reunion. But Castle, to his everlasting torment, survives. Now, Frank Castle--the Punisher--views the world as one darkened by war, crime, cruelty, and injustice. He has no superpowers to battle the evil he sees, only his fierce intelligence, his years of combat experience and, above all, his iron determination to avenge those wronged by society's villains.

Starring: Thomas Jane, John Travolta, Will Patton, Roy Scheider, Laura Elena Harring
Directed by: Jonathan Hensleigh
U.S. Rating: R

The Punisher offered a witty script supported by an amazing cast. Thomas Jane played such a great role as Frank Castle, the FBI special agent who loses his family and becomes The Punisher, fighting crime and injustice with no mercy. John Travolta plays also a great supporting role as the powerful and rich Howard Saint, who killed Castle's family after losing his son in a secret operation led by Castle. Even though it was consider a poor script by some critics, everyone agreed that Jane and travolta played strong and convincing roles, saving the day for this comic book adaptation.

What did I like from this movie?

1. I really enjoyed all the action scenes in this movie. All of them offer great entertaining moments
2. The roles of Mr Dumpo and Dave provided some good laughs, giving the fun side and complement of the story

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. I don't know why he couldn't get related with Rebecca Romijn, even though, we know that all comic book heroes can't be fall in love or work on a love relationship as normal people, right?

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Movie Review: Proof of Life

Thursday, August 6, 2009 0 comments

Synopsis: Peter Bowman, an American engineer in a Latin American country, is kidnapped for a $3 million dollar ransom. Abandoned by her husband's employer and insurance company, his wife Alice refuses to give up his life. She takes on the task of bringing him home but quickly realizes she can't do that without help. An expert in 'K&R' (Kidnap & Ransom), Terry Thorne is Alice's best and only hope for saving Peter. He takes on the job, but soon finds it to be trickier than anyone thought. Throughout the lengthy negotiations, Alice and Terry develop a mutual respect which evolves into a mutual attraction as they barter for Peter's life with the kidnappers. With the help of a fellow negotiator, Dino, and a trio of highly trained mercenaries, Terry takes on a do-or-die rescue operation that could as easily result in disaster as in triumph.

Starring: Meg Ryan, Russell Crowe, David Morse, Pamela Reed, David Caruso
Directed by: Taylor Hackford, Gary Davis
U.S. Rating: R

A great plot with a great cast. This could be considered one of those very few great movies with a cast full of great actors and actresses. Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe make a great team on this movie with great supporting roles by David Caruso, David Morse and Pamela Reed. This movie brings to the big screen a tragic reality lived by hundreds of people in many different countries in South and Central America: Being kidnapped by revolutionary armed groups. I always enjoy these plot expressing situations that are pretty closed to real situations in life. In this case, the movie is able to go through all possible situations: Peter Bowman, an American engineer in a Latin American country, is kidnapped for a $3 million dollar ransom. They're abandoned by Peter's employer and insurance company, all the negotiation process and final rescue from the jungle. It also brings some drama when Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe get too attached to each other due to the situation, even though, they knew it couldn't have a happy end, since the priority and most important thing was to rescue Meg's husband.

What did I like from this movie?

1. As mentioned before, I believe it is a plot that offers a little bit of drama, love, treason, action, suspense. I believe that all the roles were clearly identified in this movie. It didn't have a main role or character, but all the roles involved were influential and relevant.
2. In a fictional plot expressing such a real situation lived and suffered by so many people in some Latin American countries.

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The casual situation when the house keeper's daughter recognizes the kidnapper's voice. Even though, I know it can possible, since in most of the kidnapping cases, there's an insider that always provides information about the victim.
2. Some of the rebels were really lame as actors or actresses.

I would rate this movie with a 4/5

Synopsis: American pilot Leo Davidson finds himself stranded in an upside-down world--a brutal, primal place where intelligent apes are in charge and humans scavenge for subsistence, hunted and enslaved by the tyrannical primates. When he attracts the attention of the politically well-connected ape Ari, a human rights activist, he begins to challenge the status quo, becoming a catalyst for revolutionary social change.

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Clarke Duncan, Paul Giamatti
Directed by: Tim Burton, Andy Armstrong
U.S. Rating: PG-13

I still remember many, many years ago when I was a kid and followed Planets of the Apes on TV. It was one of those great TV series, even though I was just a kid. On this new remake with Mark Wahlberg of the original movie from 1968, we can enjoy of an entertaining plot, a professional cast and amazing make-up. This movie face critics from all aspects, the lack of professionalism from the cast, some of the roles in this movie received awards as the worst act supporting roles. Even though, it's a movie that I personally enjoyed and never get tired of watch it when it's on TV.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The make-up is amazing. I was worth of a Saturn Award, but it seems that wasn't good enough to get on the precious list of the Oscar Awards.
2. The plot was a entertaining. I never watched the original movie from 1968, but it is definitely on on my list. Personally, never expected the end, when Mark returns to our planet and finds that it has turned in something else than what we could expect.

What did I like from this movie?

1. I personally agree with most of the critics. The support roles (supporting actor and actress) were really boring, with nothing to offer.

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Synopsis: No one could stop John Dillinger and his gang. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone -- from his girlfriend Billie Frechette to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. But while the adventures of Dillinger' gang -- later including Baby Face Nelson and Alvin Karpis -- thrilled many, J. Edgar Hoover made Dillinger America's first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Melvin Purvis, the dashing "Clark Gable of the FBI." However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis' men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents) and orchestrating epic betrayals -- from the infamous "Lady in Red" to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti -- were Purvis, the FBI and their new crew of gunfighters able to close in on Dillinger.
Starring: Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marion Cotillard, Channing Tatum, David Wenham
Directed by: Michael Mann
U.S. Rating: R

Definitely not the best movie I've seen with Johnny Deep, neither the best with Christian Bale. I kinda like their movies, but I could say I've seen better movies with each of them. Said this, I can say that it is a good action movie. It has a good plot, especially because it's about a true story. I personally love movies related with true stories like this one. I believe the cast was amazing, even though, they looked sometimes more like magazine models than real people, even though, I know that John Dillinger loved expensive cloths & good lifestyle. It's a movie loaded with lots of action scenes.

What did I like from this movie?

1. Michael Mann, the director, decided to shoot the movie in HD format (Viper FilmStream High-Definition Camera) instead of using the traditional 35 mm film. It offered more quality and reality to this film. You could actually notice the quality of this format through out all the movie, but especially when the FBI is getting closer to the gang (John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson, etc.) and find them in a lonely house. The action scene where everyone is shutting to each other seems extremely real, like it was a real situation and not a movie scene.
2. The two escapes from jail. Both scenes were really good.
3. I liked the way they showed how related was the beginning of the bureau (FBI) with this stage in history of gangs and organized crime in the United States.
4. How love can either create the best things in life, or bring down the worst plans, plots and people.

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. I definitely could expect more from the cast. This movie had an amazing cast, but maybe the plot wasn't the best to explode their best. Even though, it was a great movie, and enjoyed how they played their roles on this movie.
2. I felt the motion got really slow for very few minutes in two different occasions on this movie. I can easily get lost when this happens because I either get bored or distracted.

I would rate this movie with a 4/5
