The 84th Academy Awards Nominations were announced a week ago, on January 24th. I personally believe that this years' nominations are a little bit peculiar. Some big (and pleasant) surprises, not just for great nominations people weren't expecting, and other ones that never happened and made some people, actors, etc., really upset. The thing is that it is official, and now the race has begun. The 2012 Oscar presentation will take place Sunday, February 26th, 2012.
As promised when I posted the announced nominations, I've chosen my favorite ones for this special event.
If you haven't had the chance to see the list yet, here's the complete list of nominations for the 84th Academy Awards and more especially, my personal favorites:

The 84th Academy Awards Nominations have finally been announced today, January 24th. With some exceptions, I must say that I was kind of surprised with some significant differences between the Golden Globes, BAFTA and Oscars nominations this year 2012. Great day for The Artist, The Descendants, The Help, War Horse and Hugo, getting the mayoriy of the nominations this year. There were some big and pleasant surprises, for example, the nominations announced for Gary Oldman (Best Actor in Leading Role), Melissa McCarthy (Best Actress in Supporting Role) and Jonah Hill (Best Actor is Supporting Role). It will definitely be a great ceremony to watch.
The 2012 Oscar presentation will take place Sunday, February 26th, 2012, hosted by Billy Crystal.

The 2012 Golden Globe Awards have finally been announced in the 69th Ceremony that took place last night in Los Angeles. Ricky Gervais took the stage once again as host of this important ceremony, doing a great job entertaining the audience. If we remember, last year, Ricky Gervais hosted the 68th Ceremony and received severe criticism for all his blunt and hilarious comments made that night. Last night, he was more moderated on his comments, giving some rest to all those who might have felt threatened for his blunt and spicy comments. Great surprises last night, but especially, an important mention must be made for the winner of the night: The Artist. I'm happy! The 83rd Academy Awards Nominations have finally been announced early this morning, January 25th. Even though, I'm not happy for that... I'm happy because today is my birthday! Anyway, just a few weeks ago, we enjoyed the Golden Globes Awards Ceremony and just a few days ago the BAFTA Awards Nominations were announced. I haven't had the chance to watch some of the nominated films yet, but I'll try to watch them before the Awards ceremony (at least, the ones that have come to theaters yet!). Some nominated films were more than expected for us, some of them are a complete surprise. The great news is that it seems that we'll have a great competition this year, with such amazing films and visual work.
For example, it was such a pleasant surprise to see Toy Story 3 nominated for best picture! I DO believe it deserves it. I haven't seen an animated film with such a strong script and amazing quality. Maybe it won't get the Best Picture Award, but I'm 100% sure it will get the Awards for Best Animated Film and Writing (Adapted Screenplay). It is also interesting to notice that the nominations have been hoarded by a very few list of amazing films: The Social Network, The King's Speech, 127 Hours, True Grit, The Fighter and Black Swan. I'm totally affraid of giving my predictions, since it will be such a close competition! I'm disappointed with the few nominations announced for Inception, one of my TOP favorite films of all times. Anyway, it will be such an interesting ceremony this year, strong competitors and amazing films!
The 2011 Oscar ceremony will take place Sunday, February 27, 2011, hosted by Anne Hathaway and James Franco at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.

Enjoy it!...

Well, we finally enjoyed The 82nd Academy Awards ceremony last night and all the Winners were revealed. Congratulations to all the winners, I'm sure they really deserved it. I really enjoyed watching the movies nominated.
There were some really good surprises and moments during this ceremony. For example, a large majority of the nominations were "first time nominees". Another interesting thing I noticed was that most of the winners were "first time nominees" also. For example: Sandra Bullock, Mo'nique, Christoph Waltz, etc. It was also interesting to know that Jeff Bridges had to wait 40 years to win his first Oscar! He's been nominated 5 times, his first nomination was 40 years ago.
I'm glad for the results, it showed that the people voting for these winners focused on the talent and performance (just like Mo'Nique recognized it). They showed that an Oscar for Best Picture is not based on how many years you spend making a movie, the amazing and advanced technology used, the huge amount spent for the project and especially, for breaking all records of audience and profits. Last night we saw the best picture award offered to a "low budget" film, with tons of problems finding a distributor who could trust on this project, and with a good and barely famous cast. I'm glad for the results.
I think I did good with my predictions!, what do you think? If you haven't had the chance to see who won yet, here's the complete list of winners for the 82nd Academy Awards:

I think I did good with my predictions!, what do you think? If you haven't had the chance to see who won yet, here's the complete list of winners for the 82nd Academy Awards:
Best Picture
* Avatar (My predictions)
* The Blind Side
* District 9
* An Education
* The Hurt Locker (The Winner)
* Inglorious Basterds
* Precious
* A Serious Man
* Up
* Up in the Air
I missed this one and I'm so glad I did. The Hurt Locker was always my favorite. In fact, I chose it for the Golden Globe Awards and sadly I was wrong, since Avatar won that Award. Anyway, I selected Avatar because it was difficult decision. I focused on the whole package and not on the film. The Hurt Locker definitely deserves this recognition. I totally recommend it if you haven't watched it yet!
Actor in a Leading Role
* Jeff Bridges, Crazy Heart (Match!. My prediction was correct!)
* George Clooney, Up in the Air
* Colin Firth, A Single Man
* Morgan Freeman, Invictus
* Jeremy Renner, The Hurt Locker
I'm really glad he won this year. I really like Jeff "The Dude" Bridges, and I really enjoyed his acceptance speech last night.
Actor in Supporting Role
* Matt Damon, Invictus
* Woody Harrelson, The Messenger
* Chistopher Plummer, The Last Station
* Stanley Tucci, The Lovely Bones
* Christoph Waltz, Inglorious Basterds (Match!. My prediction was correct!)
No doubt it was one of the most deserved awards. He didn't have ANY competition last night. His name has been written on this statue for months.
Actress in Leading Role
* Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side (Match!. My prediction was correct!)
* Helen Mirren, The Last Station
* Carey Mulligan, An Education
* Gabourey Sidibe, Precious
* Meryl Streep, Julie & Julia
I like Meryl Streep, and I think she had a great performance in Julie & Julia, but this award was meant for Sandra Bullock. No doubt about it.
Something interesting... she "personally" received her Razzie Award the night before for worst actress in 2009 (for the film All About Steve), and last night got the Award for best actress.
What a long run for Sandra!... How much she has progressed since we saw her on Speed, Demolition Man, The Net, etc.
Actress in a Supporting Role
* Penélope Cruz, Nine
* Vera Farmiga, Up in the Air
* Maggie Gyllenhaal, Crazy Heart
* Anna Kendrick, Up in the Air

Cinematography
* Avatar (The Winner)
* Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
* The Hurt Locker (My prediction)
* Inglorious Basterds
* The White Ribbon
This was one of the tough categories, since Avatar and The Hurt Locker offered a great content for this category.
Custome Design
* Bright Star
* Coco Before Chanel
* The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
* Nine
* The Young Victoria (Match!. My prediction was correct!)
This film totally deserved it. We can't compare the custome design used in Nine against The Young Victoria, for example.
Directing
* James Cameron, Avatar
* Jason Reitman, Up in the Air
* Kathryn Bigalow, The Hurt Locker (Match!. My prediction was correct!)
* Lee Daniels, Precious
* Quentin Tarantino, Inglorious Basterds
I'm SO glad she won. I really enjoyed her work. James Cameron made a terrific job directing Avatar, but come on, Kathryn deserved it. Besides, it was so good to watch James Cameron's face when they announced the award and after she finished her speech.
Documentary Feature
* Burma VJ
* The Cove (Match!. My prediction was correct!)
* Food, Inc
* The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers
* Which Way Home
