Movie Review: Big Daddy

Tuesday, March 2, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: Sonny Koufax is a slacker, working only part time and hanging around New York, having collected a big payout after a car accident. Then 5-year-old Julian turns up, claiming to be the son of his roommate Kevin. But Kevin disclaims all knowledge and leaves for a work assignment in China, leaving Sonny with the kid. He is about to ship him to Social Services, but then realises that little Julian could help him win back his ex-girlfriend. He becomes an instant daddy, and is a hit with the kid for allowing him to dress and act as he wants. Soon, his ploy is making him reconsider his life, and he forms a real bond with Julian, as well as meeting Layla.

Starring: Adam Sandler, Joey Lauren Adams, Jon Stewart, Cole Sprouse, Dylan Sprouse
Directed by: Dennis Dugan
U.S. Rating: PG-13

Big Daddy could be considered the first good romantic comedy/drama film for Adam Sandler. After playing a few goofy films like Billy Madison, Happy Guilmore (which I DO love), The Wedding Singer, The Waterboy, etc., Big Daddy was such a great romantic and sentimental comedy film.

I know Adam Sandler can be one of those likable actors or not. There's no grey lines with him. All the people I know either like him or not. But most of the people that have watched the film, totally loved it, no matter if they didn't like Adam Sandler. If you haven't watched the film yet, Big Daddy is a fresh and charming film that should be highly considered to be watched.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The good and fun sentimental father-son relationship shown between Adam & Cole
2. I really enjoyed the cast and script, it had the perfect combination
3. It had an amazing soundtrack selection

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Nothing at all. It was a really nice and entertaining film

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Synopsis: The story of IB Fahdlan, an important emissary who is banished from his homeland. The nomadic outcast comes across a band of Norse warriors who coerce him into joining them when they are summoned to fight mysterious creatures legendary for consuming every living thing in their path. Eventually surrounded by the frightening and ferocious foe, Ibn must conquer his personal fears and help battle the illusive invaders--who emerge out of the shroud of fog in the black of the night.

Starring: Antonio Banderas, Vladimir Kulich, Dennis Storhoi, Daniel Southern, Neil Maffin
Directed by: John McTiernan, John Sullivan
U.S. Rating: R

A fascinating horror movie with a very unexpected final. Antonio Banderas plays the role of IB Fahdlan, an important emissary who is banished from his homeland and is forced to join a band of Norse warriors, learning their language and being able to be part of their culture and people. When he gets to their village, he finds out that every time the foe covers the surface of the land, they get extremely scared and cautious. When the foe surrounds them, they're being threatened and attacked by mysterious creatures that kills every living thing on their way. A very frightening thriller that offers an unexpected final, when Antonio Banderas needs to take part of their fights, to the end when he leads them to the destruction of these mysterious creatures.

What did I like from this movie?

1. I enjoyed that even though I was able to partially guess the situation and things that were about to happen, I never expected the final of the movie
2. I haven't watched a movie about Vikings in a while, so it was kind of interesting to watch
3. I think that Antonio Banderas played a good and enjoyable role, supported by a good cast

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Not very pleasant in some scenes, especially some of the scenes with the mysterious creatures

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Movie Review: Fight Club

Thursday, September 24, 2009 5 comments

Synopsis: The mundane existence of a product liability evaluator and insomniac, who is addicted to self-help groups, is turned upside down when he meets a sado-masochistic anarchist who is secretly plotting to overthrow civilization. As their friendship grows, they become increasingly involved in a secret society of "fight clubs" where men act out their aggressions and violently beat one another to a pulp. In the meantime, the evaluator falls in love with a woman who is also addicted to self-help groups, but is unable to act on his desire for her.

Starring: Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, Michael "Meatloaf" Lee Loaf, Zach Grenier, Richmond Arquette
Directed by: David Fincher
U.S. Rating: R

I get scared when my wife says: Don't mess with me! I watched Fight Club!

Another crazy and bizarre classic movie. If you haven't watched Fight Club, you haven't watched it all. One of the most controversial movies in a decade, Fight club offers the craziest final ever expected. For many people and critics, Edward Norton plays one of his best roles so far in this movie. Personally, I believe it has been his best role up to this day. Brad Pitt adds so much craziness and action to the Norton's role. Definitely one of the weirdest movies I've watched, but also one of the best performances provided by Norton and Pitt.

What did I like from this movie?

1. My favorite character is Tyler Durden (Pitt). So crazy that I couldn't stop laughing watching this guy! Especially when he's fighting with the nunchaku
2. I really liked both performances, Norton and Pitt's performances were amazing in this movie. no matter how crazy and bizarre this movie could be, their performance was amazing

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. I've heard that there have been some discussions for a new Fight Club movie, not sure if it's a sequel or a remake. The important thing is that I believe that I find extremely difficult (if not impossible) that anyone could offer a better performance than these two guys in this movie

I would rate this movie with a 3/5
