Here's the second movie trailer for Adrien Brody's latest film, Splice. Starring Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley. Splice is a Sci-Fi, suspense/horror film about two brilliant scientists experimenting on some genetic engineering tests, creating new animal species and a new hybrid (animal/human) , tests that will lead them to some shocking results. The film will be released this Summer 2010.

Synopsis: Clive and Elsa are a pair of brilliant scientists whose cutting-edge experiments in genetic engineering make them superstars in their field. As devoted to their careers as they are to one another, they start conducting unauthorized experiments with new animal species that show great promise. Drunk with their god-like powers, they introduce human DNA into one of their creations, producing a creature that is greater than the sum of its parts: a rapidly developing animal/human hybrid that may be a step up on the evolutionary ladder. While this female creature inspires maternal feelings in Elsa, she evokes something far-from-paternal in Clive, something that poses a threat to them all. Movie Review: The Losers

Sunday, May 30, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: Members of an elite U.S. Special Forces unit are sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The team -- Clay, Jensen, Roque, Pooch and Cougar -- find themselves the target of a lethal betrayal instigated from inside by a powerful enemy known only as Max. Presumed dead, the group makes plans to even the score when they're joined by the mysterious Aisha, a beautiful operative with her own agenda. Working together, they must remain deep undercover while tracking the heavily-guarded Max, a ruthless man bent on embroiling the world in a new high-tech global war.

Starring: Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Chris Evans, Idris Elba, Columbus Short
Directed by: Sylvain White
U.S. Rating: PG-13

I was really intrigued and interested in this film since the first time I watched the trailer. Not just because of all the good action it seemed to offer, but the good sense of humor.

Well, after having the chance to watch the film, now I can certainly say that I was pleased to be right. The film not just brings some cool action scenes, but offers also lots and lots of cool, fresh and funny scenes, with a great sense of humor.

The Losers is about a especial and secret military team that has been sent to Bolivia to capture/kill a drug lord living in the middle of the jungle. When they're ready to run the special operation, they find out that these drug dealers have captured a bunch of kids and were using them as a human shield in their premises. When they report that to their command center and try to abort the air strike to the drug facilities, they find that they're not being listened and the command center decides to continue with their decisions.

The team takes the lead and save the kids, kill the drug dealer and leave the premises before it is hit by the air strike. When they're evacuated in a helicopter, they are told that they won't be able to leave the area because they weren't expecting to take the kids in the helicopter. They offer to send the kids on the helicopter and they would get back on their own means. As soon as the helicopter lifts up, it is hit by a new air strike. This strike was meant for them, since everyone died on that helicopter. This attack was planned by an important business man related with weapons and military, called Max.

They stay in Bolivia, since they were supossed to be dead and they had no money or a plan to return back home. There in Bolivia, they met Aisha, Max. They accept the plan offered and return to the U.S.

Once they're back, they plan a precise attack to catch Max, but instead of getting him, they get an important posession from Max. This posession will force them to negociate and find other ways to either get Max and kill him, or return the posession and die.

Even though, it is a simple and easy plot to follow, there's a tricky situation that I didn't see coming at all! That made it really interesting at the last part of the film.

The cast was great, simply great. The script was hilarious! There were some hilarious lines that made us laugh really loud at the theater. I think it really helped to enjoy so much the film.

As said, it is not a strong plot, but the cast and script made it so worth to watch. Great direction! I really enjoyed it. I'm giving the film a 3/5, even though, I'd give it a 4/5 for the great script and funny lines said on this film.

Totally recommended!

What did I like from this movie?

1. The cast was really, really good!
2. Really funny lines. I laught so hard when Chris Evans is changing on the elevator and says... "You're linking the angle of the dangle?" and when Max is talking with the buyers and there's this short guy and he says... "Are you standing on a hole?" Hilarious!
3. I really enjoyed the action scenes, but one special scene was the one at the office, when Chris Evans point with his fingers like he was holding guns and the sniper shots the guards.
4. What's the deal with all the different color/logo t-shirts used by Evans?... Some of them were really funny!

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. I really enjoyed it. I think the only thing I didn't like was the scene when they're supossed to be at a cemetery in Bolivia and there's a Puerto Rican flag on the roof of one of the houses! I even doubt for a second, thinking it was a Cuban or PR flag.

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Movie Review: Shooter

Friday, May 28, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: Bob Lee Swagger (Mark Wahlberg), a former Marine Corps sniper who leaves the military after a mission goes bad. After he is reluctantly pressed back into service, Swagger is double-crossed again. With two bullets in him and the subject of a nationwide manhunt, Swagger begins his revenge, which will take down the most powerful people in the country.

Starring: Mark Wahlberg, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Rhona Mitra, Danny Glover
Directed by: Antoine Fuqua
U.S. Rating: R

Shooter, another great action/thriller film with Mark Wahlberg.

Shooter is the story about Bob Swagger, an ex marine sniper who's been recruited to provide professional assistance to protect the president from an imminent threat of assasination. Once he's provided his advises and warnings, he discovers that he's been framed on the assasination of a foreign president in American soil.

He manages the situation and escapes from his enemies. The FBI, Secret Service, Police Departments and other inteligence and police forces try to hunt him down while he's trying to recover from being shot and finding the time and space to be able to find the truth and take the responsibles down to justice.

A really good action thriller that beings the perfect combination of a great cast, combined with a really good script and great direction. Even though it is yet another special-forces/hero films, Shooter brings a different perspective and freshness with the great performance of Mark Wahlberg and Michael Pena.

Totally recommended!

What did I like from this movie?

1. Memorable quotes:
- I'm a United States' Senator!... Exactly!
- You don't understand! They killed my dog!
2. Great plot supported by a great cast
3. I really enjoyed Michael Pena's role performance in this film. I believe he's one of those great "low profile" actors in Hollywood
3. Great and really well directed action scenes

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Nothing, I really enjoyed the film

I would rate this movie with a 4/5

A second movie trailer for George A. Romero's latest film, Survival of the Dead, has been released. A crazy horror film following its predecessor Diary of the Dead. The film will be released this weekend, on May 28th, 2010.

Synopsis: Immediately following the events of "Diary of the Dead," "Survival of the Dead," is the 6th film from George A. Romero to look at a world where humans are in the minority and the zombies rule.

Off the coast of Delaware sits the cozy Plum Island where two families are locked in a struggle for power, as it has been for generations. The O'Flynn's, headed by patriarch Patrick O'Flynn (Kenneth Welsh) approach the zombie plague with a shoot-to-kill attitude. The Muldoons, headedby Shamus Muldoon (Richard Fitzpatrick), feel that the zombies should be quarantined and kept 'alive,' in hopes that a solution will someday be found.

The O'Flynn's, who are clearly outnumbered, are forced to exile Patrick by boat to the mainland, where he meets up with a cynical band of soldiers, headed by Guardsman Sarge (Alan Van Sprang). They join forces and return to the island, to find that the zombie plague has fully gripped the divided community, and the body count is rising.

As the battle between humans and zombies escalates, the master filmmaker continues to reinvent the modern horror genre with wicked humor and pointed social commentary.

Movie Review: Iron Man 2

Thursday, May 27, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: The world is aware that billionaire inventor Tony Stark is the armored Super Hero Iron Man. Under pressure from the government, the press and the public to share his technology with the military, Tony is unwilling to divulge the secrets behind the Iron Man armor because he fears the information will slip into the wrong hands. With Pepper Potts, and James "Rhodey" Rhodes at his side, Tony forges new alliances and confronts powerful new forces.

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Mickey Rourke, Sam Rockwell
Directed by: Jon Favreau
U.S. Rating: PG-13

What else can I say after watching the film two times? I just LOVED IT!

As soon as I left the theater in 2008, I was so excited about a future sequel. I was on top of all the news and updates about the sequel announced last year and I got anxious after watching the trailers. The first reviews I read about the film weren't the best ones. Many of them gave a low rate and said it wasn't as good as they'd expect it to be.

Well, I don't really know what is that "amazing" factor they could be expecting on this sequel. The truth is that I just loved it and it made honor to the first Iron Man, which was simply amazing.

The case was simply amazing. I know many people don't like Mickey Rourke or Scarlett Johansson, but noone could do a better job in their roles.

If you watched the first Iron Man, you aleady know about Tony Stark's unique sense of pride. and narcissism. That's what this sequel is all about. About his pride, his toys and knowledge. The film brings amazing action scenes, great CGI effects, good sense of humor, cool new toys, new enemies and a fresh and entertaining plot.

The interesting detail about the film was that Marvel used the film to give some tips and ideas about what's coming on the way, with all the "Avengers" movie series that will come in the near future.

Definitely one of the best action films of the year, even though, I know there will be great ones within the next few months :) I totally recommend the film

What did I like from this movie?

1. The cast. Great selection! No matter how controversial Scarlett Johansson or Mickey Rourke could be, they just made the difference in this film
2. The cool scene in Monaco and the portable Iron Man suit case
3. Robert Downey Jr nailed it again. Great performance
4. The good sense of humor in most of the scenes
5. Great action sequences
6. Marvel gave a vision of what is coming in the near future with all the "Avengers" movie series

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. I really enjoyed the film, the only detail I found was Samuel L. Jackson's performance. I DO really like him, but he was the darkest performance in this film

I would rate this movie with a 4/5

Sony Pictures Classic has released the trailer for the upcoming movie, Get Low. Starring Robert Duvall, Sissy Spacek, Bill Murray, Lucas Black and Gerald McRaney. With such an amazing cast, and what seems to be a pretty good plot, I believe Get Low will be a film so worth to watch!

Great Directors is a new documentary based on the work and vision of 10 great film directors from around the world. Today we're posting the movie trailer for this upcoming documentary, Great Directors!

Synopsis: Angela Ismailos’ GREAT DIRECTORS, is a celebration of films and filmmaking starring ten of the worlds most acclaimed, provocative, and individualistic living directors. The documentary, which had its world premiere at the 2009 Venice Film Festival, is a deeply personal and intimate look at the art of cinema and the artists who create it, and features original, in—depth conversations with world—class filmmakers Bernardo Bertolucci, David Lynch, Stephen Frears, Agnes Varda, Ken Loach, Liliana Cavani, Todd Haynes, Catherine Breillat, Richard Linklater and John Sayles. These interviews more than just chronicle Ismailos’ encounters with ten remarkable men and women. Extensively illuminated by clips and historical archives from the subjects’ works, they also reveal the distinctive personalities who created the timeless images that have long inspired Ismailos—and all of us. Intercutting among the filmmakers in a freely associative way, Ismailos explores each director’s artistic evolution; the role of politics and history on their work; their feelings about the other great directors who inspired them (with Bertolucci paying homage to Pasolini, Breillat to Bergman, and Haynes to Fassbinder, etc.); and the agony and ecstasy of being an artist in a medium that is, paradoxically, also an industry.

Movie Review:Taxi

Wednesday, May 19, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: Belle Williams is a speed demon. Flying through the streets of New York in her tricked-out taxi, she's earned a rep as New York's fastest cabbie. But driving a hack is only a pit stop for her real dream: Belle wants to be a race car champion. And she's well on her way--until she's derailed by overeager cop Andy Washburn, whose undercover skills are matched only by his total ineptitude behind the wheel. Washburn, whose lack of vehicular skills has landed him in the precinct doghouse, is hot on the heels of a gang of beautiful Brazilian bank robbers, led by Vanessa, their cold, calculating--and leggy--leader. To nab the evasive crooks, drivers license-less Washburn convinces Belle to team up with him to pursue Vanessa and crew. Belle has carte blanche to drive at any speed and break any law. The car-less cop and speed-demon cabbie--New York's unlikeliest partners-- begin a high-speed game of cat and mouse with the robbers. That is, if Belle and Washburn don't end up killing each other first.

Starring: Queen Latifah, Jimmy Fallon, Gisele Bundchen, Jennifer Esposito, Christian Kane
Directed by: Tim Story
U.S. Rating: PG-13

One of my favorite comedies. Giving my personal opinion, I think in Taxi, Jimmy Fallon plays one of his best roles so far. I've enjoyed many other of his films, but this one is definitely one of his best films. Queen Latifah plays also a pretty funny and fresh role in this remake of the original french film, Taxi.

Based on the story of Detective Washburn, a 'peculiar' cop with the worst skills ever, and Belle, a super skilled New York taxi driver with the dream of being a professional race car champion. Their lives are crossed when Detective Washburn tries to capture a group of models who are more than beautiful women, but bank robbers. With Bella's assistance, Detective Washburn tries to solve the case and bring all these beautiful brazilian models to justice, recover Bella's taxi and especially, his ruined cop reputation.

It is actually a pretty good and entertaining film, totally recommended for any time at home!

What did I like from this movie?

1. Jimmy Fallon's disguises are amazing and funny! Especially when he's trying to be a cuban guy
2. As said before, this film is a remake of the original french film, Taxi. The original one was pretty funny, so I expected this one to be as good as the original one, and I wasn't disappointed
3. The story is not quite similar, but this script for this remake was good enough to entertain everyone. I think the great cast made the big difference

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Maybe it was too goofy in a few moments, but I really enjoyed it though

I would rate this movie with a 4/5

Procrastination

Wednesday, May 12, 2010 2 comments

I think I should be called The Master of Procrastination. I didn't notice it's been almost a month since I posted my last movie review! It is not because I haven't watched recent movies, I've watched A LOT of films lately, but I have failed in writing a quick review or notes about them. Some of the recent films watched include Iron Man 2, The Back-Up Plan, Date Night, Hot Tub Time Machine, and many other old and recent films. I'll try to post these reviews or notes within the next few days ;)

In the mean time, there are also a large list of new movie trailers that I'll be posting, since we're getting to one of my favorite film seasons of the year: Summer!

Enjoy it!...
