Movie Review: Super Size Me

Saturday, September 5, 2009
Synopsis: Why are Americans so fat? Two words: fast food. What would happen if you ate nothing but fast food for an entire month? Filmmaker Morgan Spurlock does just that and embarks on the most perilous journey of his life. The rules? For 30 days he can't eat or drink anything that isn't on McDonald's menu; he must wolf three squares a day; he must consume everything on the menu at least once and supersize his meal if asked. Spurlock treks across the country interviewing a host of experts on fast food and an equal number of regular folk while chowing down at the Golden Arches. Spurlock's grueling drive-through diet spirals him into a physical and emotional metamorphosis that will make you think twice about picking up another Big Mac.

Starring: Morgan Spurlock, Daryl Isaacs, Lisa Ganjhu, Stephen Siegel, Bridget Bennett
Directed by: Morgan Spurlock
U.S. Rating: PG-13

Interesting documentary. I personally have been affected by this documentary! I have been a couple of times on that same situation, due to my lack of time at work and finding easier to eat almost every day junk food (especially from McDonald's and other similar junk food franchises). Even though Morgan Spurlock didn't win the battle against the high calorie food provided by McDonald's, at least, I'm sure that it might help some people to change their habits and start eating healthier.

What did I like from this movie?

1. I liked how Morgan tried to go through all the statistic facts and show the side effects not by other people's experiences and studies, but through his own life and experience

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. That it might not have be enough help to change people's lives about their unhealthy habits

I would rate this movie with a 4/5

  3. I literally watched this movie documentary in absolute shock! I knew fast food wasn't good for us but this was breathtakingly eyeopening. And I HAVE to point out that after this movie came out McDonald's DID begin to change their menus. Now they have all white meat chicken, salads, yogurt, among other healthier choices. I'm not singing McDonald's praise but I do believe this documentary did open their eyes (along with multiple lawsuits...).
