Movie Review: The Day After Tomorrow

Sunday, November 22, 2009
Synopsis: What if we are on the brink of a new Ice Age? This is the question that haunts climatologist Jack Hall. Hall's research indicates that global warming could trigger an abrupt and catastrophic shift in the planet's climate. While Jack warns the White House of the impending climate shift, his 17 year-old son Sam finds himself trapped in New York City where he and some friends have been competing in a high school academic competition. He must now cope with the severe flooding and plummeting temperatures in Manhattan. Having taken refuge inside the Manhattan Public Library, Sam manages to reach his father by phone. Jack only has time for one warning: stay inside at all costs. As full-scale, massive evacuations to the south begin, Jack heads north to New York City to save Sam. But not even Jack is prepared for what is about to happen--to him, to his son, and to his planet.

Starring: Dennis Quaid, Jake Gyllenhaal, Emmy Rossum, Dash Mihok, Jay O. Sanders
Directed by: Roland Emmerich
U.S. Rating: PG-13

One of my favorite movies. Another great action film related with a global warming concern script directed by Roland Emmerich. In this plot, Dennis Quaid plays the key role of a scientist who tries to warn the White House about some critical events that might happen and would need everyone's attention. Dennis' son, Jake Gyllenhaal is in New York for a school event and gets stuck in the middle of this natural dissaster, with the only hope of his dad's promise... "I will come for you!". A really entertaining plot with such amazing CGI effects, a personal trademark in all Roland Emmerich's work. Totally recommended!

What did I like from this movie?

1. All the CGI effects in New York City, when it started raining and then it was totally covered with water coming from the huge ocean's waves, as well as the effects when they face the eye of the storm
2. The whole situation when they have to get the meds in the big ship and they have to escape from the wolves
3. Great cast involved in this plot

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The only problem with these plots is that all the tragic events occur in a matter of 24 hours!

I would rate this movie with a 3/5
