Movie Review: The Ultimate Gift

Tuesday, October 27, 2009
Synopsis: When his wealthy grandfather dies, trust fund baby Jason Stevens anticipates a big inheritance. Instead, his grandfather has devised a crash course on life: twelve gifts designed to challenge Jason in improbable ways, sending him on a journey of self-discovery and forcing him to determine what is most important in life: money or happiness. Jason thought his inheritance was the gift of money and lots of it--but Jason thought wrong. He had a very simple relationship with his impossibly wealthy Grandfather, Howard Stevens. He hated him. No heart-to-heart talks, no warm fuzzies, just cold hard cash. So of course he figured that when Red died, the whole reading of the will thing would be another simple cash transaction. He figured that his Grandfather's money would allow him to continue living in the lifestyle to which he had become accustomed. But what Red left him was anything but simple. Red instead devised a plan for Jason to experience a crash course on life. Twelve tasks, which Red calls gifts, each challenging Jason in improbable ways, the accumulation of which would change him forever.

Great movie. I really enjoyed the plot and the cast involved in this film. A simple, basic and fresh plot with a moral message about those important gifts in life, those things you can't buy with money. Some really good drama moments, some good laughs and some few scenes that w could consider out of place. No matter what, a film that I recommend 100% for any day, any time.

What did I like from this movie?

1. Abigail Breslin plays such a great supporting role in this movie
2. The whole moral values tought through so simple examples in this plot

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The whole kidnapping situation in Ecuador, so unreal and out of place in this movie!

I would rate this movie with a 4/5

  2. I'm going to have to say this one sounds really good. I love "feel good" movies even if the plot is simple. I've seen a few of these "after I'm dead wishes" movies, but this one sounds different. I can't wait to see it and find out how his grandfather actually leaves him. I'm guessing it isn't money, rather the experience.

  3. it is good... there are some reviews saying that it was just a cheezy "moral religious" message on a movie, but it is really good. I totally enjoyed it. Totally recommended.
