Movie Review: Miami Vice

Friday, October 23, 2009
Synopsis: Ricardo Tubbs is urbane and dead smart. He lives with Bronx-born intel analyst Trudy, as they work undercover transporting drug loads into South Florida to identify a group responsible for three murders. Sonny Crockett is charismatic and flirtatious until-while undercover working with the supplier of the South Florida group-he gets romantically entangled with Isabella, the Chinese-Cuban wife of an arms and drugs trafficker. The intensity of this case pushes Crockett and Tubbs out onto the edge where identity and fabrication become blurred, where cop and player become one-especially for Crockett in his romance with Isabella and for Tubbs in the provocation of an assault on those he loves.

Starring: Colin Farrell, Jamie Foxx, Gong Li, Naomie Harris, Ciaran Hinds
Directed by: Michael Mann
U.S. Rating: R

One of the best action TV series of all times, Miami Vice gets to the big screen by the hand of Michael Mann, with a good plot and lead characters with the charisma of a dead goat. Everyone that watched at least one of the episodes will notice immediately the huge difference between the great charisma and life style that Don Johnson and Philip Michael Tomas brought to the TV series in the 80's. It was all about high class, great cars, fashion, and lots of action, characters with a great and unique charisma and lots of action. No matter what, this film brings good action, and a high quality of image, being shot in HD format (Viper FilmStream High-Definition Camera) the technology that has become Michael Mann's personal stamp in all of his most recent movies. If you're a huge lover of this great action TV series from the 80's, you'll enjoy a good film. Totally recommended.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The high quality of the image in this film, thanks to the HD format technology used by Michael Mann
2. Great action scenes, some of them really cruel and real, for example, the last action scene, when they face the exchange and everyone starts shooting at each other (police and dealers)

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The lead characters. Definitely, Colin Farrell was the WORST choice to represent Don Johnson in this movie

I would rate this movie with a 3/5
