Movie Review: Sunshine Cleaning

Sunday, September 27, 2009
Synopsis: A family. Rose and Norah, in Albuquerque, lost their mother when they were young. Rose is responsible - a housecleaner, raising her seven-year-old son Oscar. She's also having an affair with Mac, a married cop, her high-school sweetheart. Norah can't hold a job. Their dad, Joe, is quirky. When Oscar is expelled for odd behavior, Rose wants to earn enough to send him to private school. Mac suggests she clean up after crime scenes, suicides, and deaths that go undiscovered for awhile. Rose enlists Norah, and Sunshine Cleaners is born. Norah bonds with the dead, Rose finds out that it's a regulated business, and complications arise. Can a family marked by tragedy sort things out?

I love that this movie has an original plot line. It was hilarious at times and yet had an equal amount of seriousness to it. It is the kind of movie that is great from both guys and girls! In my opinion, there aren't many movies as universally good as this one. It had good acting, good story, good laughs, and a good ending. Definitely worth the watch if you like different/odd films.

What did I like from this movie?

1. You just have to love the part where the sisters are taking out the stinky mattress and Norah trips and falls on it!
2. I really loved the part where Rose is talking to her dead mother through the CB radio. What she says really makes you think about how precious life is and how we wouldn't want to miss any of it
3. I thought there was no way this movie could end well, but low and behold it did. I like movies where I couldn't guess the ending

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. I thought all the parts to this movie definitely had a purpose but we never see closure from Norah's relationship.

I would rate this movie with a 4/5
