Movie Review: Rush Hour

Saturday, September 26, 2009
Synopsis: As the FBI scrambles to save the life of the kidnapped daughter of the Chinese Consul, the diplomat hires trusted Hong Kong police detective Lee to find the girl. Unwilling to have their investigation invaded by a meddling outsider, the FBI assigns a rogue LAPD detective to keep Detective Lee away from the case at any cost. Carter, the detective, covertly embarks on a one-man crusade to solve the case, having first distracted Lee. Within hours, Carter realises he has greatly underestimated his Hong Kong counterpart, who has seen through his ruse, given Carter the slip, and landed in the middle of the FBI's investigation. Both excluded by the FBI, these two cops from very different worlds must join forces to save the young girl.

Starring: Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, Tom Wilkinson, Christopher Penn, Elizabeth Peña
Directed by: Brett Ratner
U.S. Rating: PG-13

One of the greatest franchises Jackie Chan has been able to create with some talented and famous great co-stars. Rush Hour is one of the comedy action movies that brings the best of Jackie Chan (his Martial Arts skills) and the best of Chris Tucker (his great and spicy sense of humor). This couple brings you 90 minutes of full entertainment, laughs and action. In Rush Hour, Jackie Chan is the loyal police from Hong Kong that is sent to America when the daughter of the Consul of China is kidnapped. Being a family friend, Chan arrives to Los Angeles to help on this case and save the girl. In the other hand, the FBI doesn't want Chan to interfere with their job and send Agent Carter (Tucker) from the LAPD to be with him and keep him away from the on-going investigation. Carter is considered the worst police in the department, an embarrassment for the force and is assigned to be Chan's guardian. Both of them try to investigate and solve the case by their own hands and that's the moment when all the story, action and good laughs begin. Totally recommended for all those who want to watch a movie with some action and good laughs involved.

What did I like from this movie?

1. I believe that Chris Tucker is the key role and steels the show in this movie. All his occurrences, pride and craziness take him to do the most stupid things you could imagine from an LAPD that wants to be a FBI agent
2. I laughed so loud when he took Chan to the Chinatown and said that it was like being home
3. The moment when they're waiting outside the Chinese restaurant and they're singing, dancing and practicing some moves to get control of the gun
4. The bloopers section at the end of the movie

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The cast working with them wasn't as good as the one in the sequels

I would rate this movie with a 3/5
