Movie Review: I Love You, Man

Friday, July 31, 2009
Synopsis: Peter Klaven is a successful real estate agent who, upon getting engaged to the woman of his dreams, Zooey, discovers, to his dismay and chagrin, that he has no male friend close enough to serve as his Best Man. Peter immediately sets out to rectify the situation, embarking on a series of bizarre and awkward "man-dates," before meeting Sydney Fife, a charming, opinionated man with whom he instantly bonds. But the closer the two men get, the more Peter's relationship with Zooey suffers, ultimately forcing him to choose between his fiancee and his new found "bro," in a story that comically explores what it truly means to be a "friend."

Starring: Paul Rudd, Jason Segel, Rashida Jones, Sarah Burns, Jaime Pressly
Directed by: John Hamburg
U.S. Rating: R

Something interesting about this movie is that I didn't find it funny or good enough to go and watch it on the big screen. I initially decided to wait until it was released on DVD and could watch it at home. I finally went to watch this movie at the movie theater because it was my wife's demand, asking me to go with her and watch it, since she thought it would be a cheesy funny and romantic movie. Well, the truth is that I totally enjoyed the plot and situations on this movie. I could consider the movie as one of the funniest in 2009. The message contained is simple and interesting: the search and journey of a lonely man who seeks for that great, honest and loyal male friend in his life. The truth is that both were looking for that friendship in their lives.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The kiss between Peter Klaven and the guy his mom introduced him to go out and start a friendship. This other guy was gay and kissed him on that first male date. The kiss situation was so funny that it was nominated to the Best Kiss Scene on the MTV Movie Awards 2009!
2. The scene when Peter is trying to be accepted by the guys at the Poker game and after a beer drinking competition he pukes profusely on one of the guys.
3. The scene when they're enjoying a family dinner and Peter's dad tells him that his younger brother is his best friend.
4. The whole Lou Ferrigno's situation and role on this plot, as well as the situation with the advertisement ads.

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. They could explode more bizarre situations on his initial search for a male friend. Just a thought.

I would rate this movie with a 4/5
