Movie Review: Along Came Polly

Friday, July 24, 2009
Synopsis: Risk-averse Reuben Feffer, whose best-laid plans for life and love careen wildly off-track when his bride dumps him on their honeymoon for a muscle-bound scuba instructor. Stunned, humiliated and in the grip of acute indigestion, Reuben plans to play it safer than ever. But a chance adventure with an adventure-craving childhood friend named Polly, shoots him into a whirlwind of extreme sports, spicy foods, ferrets, salsa dancing and living in the moment.

Starring: Ben Stiller, Jennifer Aniston, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Debra Messing, Alec Baldwin
Directed by: John Hamburg
U.S. Rating: PG-13

I really enjoy Ben Stiller's humor and movie style. Being a loyal movie follower of both, Ben Stiller & Jennifer Aniston, this movie was a big hit when it came to the theaters in 2004. We can enjoy a really funny and spontaneous plot from the very first minute in this movie, when Reuben gets married and plans to enjoy a great honeymoon with his wife (the beautiful Debra Messing) on a paradisaical beach, and from that very moment we can enjoy all kind of crazy and funny situations, showing the meaningful and important changes and risks anyone can take in his or her life, especially when extreme experiences and love are on the way.

Philip Seymour Hoffman plays a really funny role in this movie as the crazy, weird famous actor "wannabe", loyal friend who always tries to give him some "helpful" advises.

What did I like from this movie?

1. Taking the risk of eating spicy food (even when he hates it), I totally laughed hysterically when he was eating at an Indian restaurant on their first date. The way he was sweating profusely and all the situation on Polly's apartment after their dinner out.
2. The one-on-one basketball game situation between Ben Stiller and the hairy & sweaty guy. Totally hilarious and disgusting!
3. The first time they go to the Salsa club. His dancing routines... such a funny disaster! After few salsa lessons, his final visit to the Salsa club and his especial and professional routine... Hilarious!
4. The moment when Philip Seymour Hoffman takes Ben Stiller's place and gives the presentation to the company's board about the insurance policy and the safety issues conclusion. He had no idea about anything he was saying, but he looked so convincing on what he exposed that he got the insurance contract.

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. I would prefer for them to get married at the end of the movie, especially when they are at the paradisaical beach. But it was a great end anyway, givig the option of taking things one step at a time, taking the time to know themselves better and get to the next step when they feel they're ready for it.

I would rate this movie with a 3/5
