Movie Review: Shutter Island

Tuesday, March 16, 2010
Synopsis: Two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, are summoned to a remote and barren island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island's fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow
Directed by: Martin Scorsese
U.S. Rating: R

Another amazing Martin Scorsese film, no doubt about it. He played his card using his golden boy, Leonardo DiCaprio, and he nailed it again. Shutter Island is not the typical horror movie we usually watch on theaters or TV. This film actually messes with your head, not in a scary, but in a thoughtful way. It makes you think about the whole situation, trying to find what's going on, especially at the end. An exceptional psychological thriller.

I've been trying to find the whole thing about the twist at the end of the film, and the interesting thing is that it's difficult to find a consensus. Everyone got a different point of view about what was happening and especially, the end of the film.

Leonardo DiCaprio's performance wasn't the best, compared with his previous roles and films, but it was extremely good for the film. He delivered the best what Scorsese wanted to expose on this film.

I have my personal idea about what was happening, but I won't tell write it as part of this short review. I will respect people who wants to watch it first and get their own impressions about the film and the twist at the end of the film. If you want to share what you think is the twist and what really happened with Teddy Daniels

Totally recommended! Such a great psychological thriller!
