Friday, September 11, 2009
Synopsis: Sam and Molly are a very happy couple and deeply in love. Walking back to their new apartment after a night out at the theater, they encounter a thief in a dark alley, and Sam is murdered. He finds himself trapped as a ghost and realizes that his death was no accident. He must warn Molly about the danger that she is in. But as a ghost he can not be seen or heard by the living, and so he tries to communicate with Molly through Oda Mae Brown, a psychic who didn't even realise that her powers were real.

Starring: Patrick Swayze, Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, Tony Goldwyn, Stanley Lawrence
Directed by: Jerry Zucker, Steven Charles Jaffe
U.S. Rating: PG-13

One of the classics that everyone should watch. Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore worked the perfect match for this movie, with the great role of Whoopi Goldberg as the semi-phony spiritualist. I never watched it on the big screen, I watched it months later, when it came to VHS (oh my!) . I didn't feel motivated to go to the theaters, no matter the great comments and critics heard about this one. When I saw the movie for the first time I could understand why it has been considered one of the mega-blockbusters of all times. The plot and romantic scenes are the perfect combination for a date night, no matter how many times you've watched this movie. Even though Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore were the perfect couple for this story, I personally believe Whoopi Goldberg stole the show with her supporting role. No wonder why this movie was nominated to the Oscar that year and reached two statues that night! A classic 100% recommended.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The scenes at the subway with the Subway Lord. The crazy old man plays such a really good role there
2. The scene when Swayze meets Ghoopi and talks with her. Such a funny moment, she's being a phony spiritualist, but the truth is that she had that gift
3. the scene when Swayze goes back to Ghoopi's room and finds her surrounded by dozens of dead people trying to talk with her
4. Of course, the trademark scene... the romantic scene when they're on their room playing with the vase

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Well, if you watch this movie today, you might find some crappy CGI effects, but knowing that it was 1990, it was ok for the technology at that time

I would rate this movie with a 5/5

  2. To be honest, I think the only reason I don't like Demi Moore is because she's married to Ashton Kutcher. Is that wrong?? It's like a jealously thing... Whoopi is awesome in this movie, though. Just like every movie she's in. I LOVE her in "How Stella Got Her Groove Back."

  3. Classic film. The clay scene is one of my favorites...yum!

    Love Whoopi!

  5. Ohhhh, gosh, this is going to be so hard to watch knowing that Patrick Swayze is gone now. But this is such an old favourite. I've never met anyone who doesn't like it. *starts tearing up*

  6. Absolutely! I think is crazy that I just watched the movie and posted this review a couple of days ago and this morning I woke up reading the news of Patrick Swayze's decease. Kinda sad and crazy. I personally loved his work in movies like Ghost, Point Break, Road House, etc.
