Movie Review: The Break-Up

Monday, September 14, 2009
Synopsis: Pushed to the breaking-point after their latest, "why can't you do this one little thing for me?" argument, art dealer Brooke calls it quits with her boyfriend, Gary, who hosts bus tours of Chicago. What follows is a series of remedies, war tactics, overtures and underminings suggested by the former couple's friends, confidantes and the occasional total stranger. When neither ex is willing to move out of the condo they used to share, the only solution is to continue living as hostile roommates until somebody caves. But somewhere between protesting the pool table in the living room, the dirty clothes stacked in the kitchen cupboards and the sports played at sleep-killing volume in the middle of the night, Brooke begins to realize that what she may be really fighting for isn't so much the place but the person.

Starring: Vince Vaughn, Jennifer Aniston, Jon Favreau, Joey Lauren Adams, Ann-Margret
Directed by: Peyton Reed
U.S. Rating: PG-13

Such a great movie, from my personal point of view. A plot that brings no just some good comedy, but also some romance and drama related with those love/deceptive experiences we all might live in our lives. Great cast involved in this movie. I personally believe that any movie that involves most of the people involved in this movie is a warranted success. Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston play the roles of the perfect couple, the one for each other enjoying such a great romantic beginning until they decide to move together to the apartment they got together. After some time, the changes start affecting their lives and relationship, to the point of no return, when nothing could save the relationship. A really good movie with a great message. As expressed by one of the media reviews, this is not a comedy movie with a serious side, it is a serious movie with a comedic side.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The great cast involved in this plot. Such a great comedy team able to bring some really funny scenes and situation, as well as some drama
2. The whole rundown on their relationship, especially the moments and scenes when Jennifer gets some dates and Vince turns them down with some advises or just inviting them to play video games
3. The whole break-up situation and the things Vince tries to do to get Jennifer back, but it is too late. Some good drama, message and emotions involved in these scenes

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The plot and cast were really good, so I couldn't say there was nothing I didn't like from this movie

I would rate this movie with a 4/5

  2. I've never seen this. I heard (from some women) that it isn't a good one to watch. Does that mean it just isn't a chick flick with the stereotypical romance? Does it end badly? I don't like movies that end badly and I'm worried this one ends badly.

  3. Not at all... in fact, Jennifer Aniston said it, it's not a chick flick. here's part of the video where she explains it:

Not, it doesn't end badly, the last part is kinda sad (the break-up), but it ends in a good way. Definitely worth to watch :)

  4. it's good Amy. Funny!
It is about a break-up...so you know they break up. You are waiting for them to get back together, but that doesn't happen...the ending shows them meeting again after a time...and leads you to believe they might get back together....but it's FUNNY!

  5. I hated this movie!!! :(
