Paramount Pictures & Overture Films have released the third movie trailer for their latest suspense/horror film, The Crazies, starring Timothy Olyphant and Radha Mitchell. It will be a good option for the beginning of Spring 2010.
Synopsis: David Dutten is sheriff of Ogden Marsh, a picture-perfect American town with happy, law-abiding citizens. But one night, one of them comes to a school baseball game with a loaded shotgun, ready to kill. Another man burns down his own house-after locking his wife and young son in a closet inside. Within days, the town has transformed into a sickening asylum; people who days ago lived quiet, unremarkable lives have now become depraved, blood-thirsty killers, hiding in the darkness with guns and knives. Sheriff Dutten tries to make sense of what's happening as the horrific, nonsensical violence escalates. Something is infecting the citizens of Ogden Marsh with insanity. Now complete anarchy reigns as one by one the townsfolk succumb to an unknown toxin and turn sadistically violent. In an effort to keep the madness contained, the government uses deadly force to close off all access and won't let anyone in or out - even those uninfected. What it is supposed to be a horror film, turns into something remotely scary. I laughed at some of the key moments of this film, especially at the end. Even though Sorority Row was considered a possible great pop-corn Summer/Fall thriller, it was far from it. The script was bad, nonsense, not scary at all, supported by a cast that was more interested in selling a dumb, plastic image of a bunch of college girls jumping around in their underwear, throwing crazy parties, rude tricks and hiding secrets like they were a dark secret organization. The saddest of all was watching the once beautiful Princess Leia, Carrie Fisher, playing the role of the house mother of the Theta Pi Fraternity.
The film is about a group of girls who plan to play a trick to one of the girl's brother. The trick? They hooked him up to one of the girls, and while they were kissing in a room (being filmed by a video cam), the girl starts convulsing and dies (supposedly). Everything went well until the moment they get to a lonely place and the guy stucks a tire iron in girl's chest. They drop the dead body in a hole and decide to keep the incident as a secret. Few months later, the girls receive a text message with the tire iron used the night the girl died and from this moment on... lots (and I mean lots!) of people start dying. Some of the people killed have nothing to do with the event, some of the people involved in the event the night the girl was killed survived. The script tries to keep some options for your imagination, trying to guess who's the person killing all those involved in that incident, but at the end, it reveals the responsible... someone who has NOTHING to do with the situation. The end couldn't be more surreal: A house burning, several girls screaming their lungs out, machine gun shots everywhere, a house, hot tub and garden in a complete mess after a crazy loud party... and the police and fire department arrives years later?! Besides that, the surviving girls leave the house walking like they were in a beauty parade. I couldn't laugh louder. I could recommend this one for a boring afternoon at home, but honestly, I can't do that to my followers and friends.

This is one of the of those perfect examples of why we shouldn't take our decisions based on the critics, reviews and comments of those who claim to be professional movie critics. I'd say that 90% of the reviews that I read (most of them from important portals and newspapers) made me think that this film didn't have what it takes to make history. Of course, most of them said that the effects and 3D technology applied to the film were A1, but the plot was plain and boring. Most of them said that all this film had to offered was delivered within the first 30 minutes of the film. I spent the last 4 weeks going to the movie theaters making my decisions based on any other movie but Avatar, since I wasn't convinced it would be a film worth to watch.
I finally took my decision to go and watch Avatar this week after reading a couple of articles about the top 5 movies in box office's history. I noticed that Titanic has been in 1st place for about 10 years, collecting the impressive amount of $1.7 billions, but Avatar has reached the 2nd place in just 4 weeks after making $1.4 billions! There must be something that is making people going to the theaters and watch this film over and over again!
Avatar is one of those unique films that you MUST watch on theaters... in 3D! If you miss the chance, you're missing the beauty and the best of it! Avatar brings an unique and spectacular new era in especial effects, technology and film scripts.
What's Avatar all about?

The RDA Comporation is leading the Avatar project in Pandora, the planet inhabited by the Na'vi, a blue-skinned species of sapient humanoids with feline characteristics. Pandora's atmosphere is toxic to human. This is the reason of the creation of Avatars, Na'vi bodies modified with human DNA that are controlled by genetically-matched, mentally-linked human operators. These Avatars let Marines get involved with the inhabitants of Pandora, learn their language and culture, trying to convince them to relocate and let the Corporation and its project to exploit Pandora's reserves of a valuable mineral called unobtanium, valued in $20 millions per kilo. Once Jake starts learning the language and culture, getting involved with the inhabitants, he starts learning the importance of their beliefs and nature protection. Avatar is one of the most amazing films I've seen so far. James Cameron took technology and visual effects to a higher level. The images and motion capture employed for the film are more than impressive.
The plot, the weak side of the film - according with the "professional reviewers" - is simply amazing. It is actually a pretty basic plot... yes, but a simple and strong script that is able to deliver the drama, action and emotions needed for this amazing film. Everything was beautifully matched... the direction, cast, plot, technology, effects and images.
What did I like from this movie?
1. The 3D technology and CGI effects applied, incredible!
2. The plot is simple but strong and entertaining, it is able to deliver the message and idea of the script, and most important? It matches with the visual side of the film
3. The cast was perfect for the film
4. I loved how colorful the film is!

Definitely one of the best films watched in 2009. Sandra Bullock played one of her best roles in her professional career, a role worth of a Golden Globe or/and Oscar Award. The Blind Side is based on a true story, supported with such an amazing cast and a pretty strong plot. The film is an inspirational story about the life of Michael Oher, an offensive lineman who plays for the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL. Being for 17 years in foster care with many different foster parents, Michael runs away from his latest foster home. One of his foster parents enrolls him in a Christian School and convinces his coach that he's a great sport guy and would help him on the School football team. Few days later, Michael meets Sean and they immediately become good friends. After a cultural activity after school, Sean's mother, Leigh Anne Tuohy - an important interior designer - sees Michael walking alone on the street in the middle of a rainy night and decides to take him home. After few events, Leigh Anne starts helping Michael to reach his potential and getting him more and more involved with her family. Michael starts achieving some success on school and the field, having some impressive moments in games that caught the attention of several coaches across the country. The film ends with some scenes of the real Michael Oher and his adopted family, at the 2009 NFL draft, showing Michael Oher being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens.
A truly inspiring and touching film with such an amazing role performance played by Sandra Bullock. Totally recommended!

Well, the winners of the 67th Annual Golden Globe Awards were finally revealed last night. As most of you know, I posted my predictions yesterday. I didn't have a perfect score, but I didn't do that bad either!
There were just a few surprises. Avatar won Best Motion Picture - Drama, and it didn't have any objection. It was definitely the best on the list. Sandra Bullock got her deserved Best Performance Actress - Drama Award, she had NO competition. Jeff Bridges won Best Performance Actor - Drama Award with his drama film Crazy Heart. I'm glad he got it, since I totally believe he's such a great actor. I'm honest, I haven't watched that film yet, but I've seen all the clips, interviews, and according with the "people" critics and comments, it seemed to be a deserved award. The Hangover won the Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy Award. If anyone doubted about this award, it is because that person hasn't watch the film yet! Meryl Streep won her Best Performance Actress - Musical or Comedy Award for her role in Julie and Julia. I had no doubt about this award... if you haven't watched the movie yet, it is 100% recommended!
Robert Downey Jr won the Best Performance Actor - Musical or Comedy Award. Honestly, I don't know the reason for his nomination in the first place. Sherlock Holmes is not a Musical or Comedy film. Every single Movie Portal describes the film as an Action/Adventure/Thriller film, not a single one describes it as a Musical or Comedy film... but hey, I'm not the professional critic here, right? :) I must say that I totally enjoyed his role in Sherlock Holmes and I have no doubts that it was a deserved award but, since it was a "Musical or Comedy" category, I believed that Matt Daemon deserved it, since his film and role was perfect for the nomination and category nomination.
Mo'nique won the Best Performance Actress in a Supporting Role Award, and she deserved it. It is a film that has stayed "low-profile" out there and it's a film so worth to watch. Christopher Waltz won The Best Performance Actor in a Supporting Role Award and let me tell you, he deserved it more than anyone in that list. I know Inglorious Basterds is a crazy twisted film (well... it's a Tarantino's film), but Waltz's performance makes it so worth to watch! Up got the Best Animated Pictures Award, totally deserved. I know that all the Animated Pictures nominated were amazing, but Up was the best. The White Robbon won the Best Foreign Language Film Award. It was tricky one, since all these films were really good.
I'm not disappointed that James Cameron won the Best Director Award. I'm totally convinced that Avatar was beautifully directed. In fact, it was my first choice. Then, I decided to change my decision to Kathryn Bigalow, since her film (The Hurt Locker) was amazingly directed also. Honestly, I was impressed for her work. Up in the Air won the Best Screenplay Award from a very interesting list, since we had all kind of different films and visual material. I went for Inglorious Basterds, but Up in the Air deserved it.
Anyway, it was a really good practice for the Oscars Awards, coming in just a few weeks. I'll post the nomination list as soon as it is revealed and we can start an open forum about our predictions :)

I know Inglorious Basterds is a crazy twisted film (well... it's a Tarantino's film), but Waltz's performance makes it so worth to watch! Up got the Best Animated Pictures Award, totally deserved. I know that all the Animated Pictures nominated were amazing, but Up was the best. The White Robbon won the Best Foreign Language Film Award. It was tricky one, since all these films were really good.
I'm not disappointed that James Cameron won the Best Director Award. I'm totally convinced that Avatar was beautifully directed. In fact, it was my first choice. Then, I decided to change my decision to Kathryn Bigalow, since her film (The Hurt Locker) was amazingly directed also. Honestly, I was impressed for her work. Up in the Air won the Best Screenplay Award from a very interesting list, since we had all kind of different films and visual material. I went for Inglorious Basterds, but Up in the Air deserved it.
Anyway, it was a really good practice for the Oscars Awards, coming in just a few weeks. I'll post the nomination list as soon as it is revealed and we can start an open forum about our predictions :)

The first movie trailer for the upcoming film, Tekken, has been released. The film is based in one of the most popular arcade fighting games in the 90's. I'm not a big fan of these "Mortal Combat" movie films, I haven't watched a single film based on these games that I could say... "it's worth to watch", but as far as I see, the movie trailer for this one seems to be good. We'll have to wait for more details and the official release date. Meanwhile, enjoy the trailer.

The 2010 Golden Globe Nominations were announced few weeks ago.
