Trailers of the Month

Here's the new movie trailer for the upcoming horror film, The Human Centipede. I don't know why this trailer made me think of the film "Turistas" (Josh Duhamel), where some guys get lost and are being kidnapped to get their organs. This time, The Human Centipede brings two girls who get lost and try to get some help at a lonely house. The problem? The owner of this house is a doctor who's experimenting with people, trying to create a human centipede. A crazy horror movie that might be good, freaky and interesting to watch!

Synopsis: A one-of-a-kind experience that is guaranteed to shock and divide audiences, Dutch filmmaker Tom Six's twisted biological horror film ,"The Human Centipede" confidently goes where few films have dared to go. In addition to its shocking imagery, the film also features an indelibly villainous performance by Dieter Laser, whose brilliant and demented Dr. Heiter is sure to soon join the ranks of Freddy, Jason and Jigsaw whenever true horror icons are discussed. During a stopover in Germany in the middle of a carefree road trip through Europe, two American girls find themselves alone at night when their car breaks down in the woods. Searching for help they find only an isolated villa, whose mysterious owner, Dr Heiter, takes them in for the night. The next day they awake to find themselves in the basement, trapped in a terrifying makeshift hospital with another one of the doctor's abductees. Dr Heiter explains to the three of them that he is retired surgeon who had specialized in separating Siamese twins. However his three "patients" are not about to be separated, but joined together in a horrific operation. He plans to be the first to connect people, one to the next, via their gastric system, and in doing so bring to life his sick lifetime fantasy: 'the human centipede'.

Magnolia Pictures has released the trailer for the upcoming documentary, Casino Jack and the United States of Money, what seems to be another good documentary about politics, power and corruption.

Synopsis: This portrait of Washington super lobbyist Jack Abramoff—from his early years as a gung—ho member of the GOP political machine to his final reckoning as a disgraced, imprisoned pariah—confirms the adage that truth is indeed stranger than fiction. Oscar—winning filmmaker Alex Gibney once again wields the tools of his trade with the skill of a master. Following the ongoing indictments of federal officials and exposing favor trading in our nation's capital, Gibney illuminates the way our politicians' desperate need to get elected—and the millions of dollars it costs—may be undermining the basic principles of American democracy. Here's the new movie trailer for George A. Romero's latest film, Survival of the Dead. A crazy horror film following its predecessor Diary of the Dead. The film will be released this next May, 2010.

Synopsis: Immediately following the events of "Diary of the Dead," "Survival of the Dead," is the 6th film from George A. Romero to look at a world where humans are in the minority and the zombies rule.

Off the coast of Delaware sits the cozy Plum Island where two families are locked in a struggle for power, as it has been for generations. The O'Flynn's, headed by patriarch Patrick O'Flynn (Kenneth Welsh) approach the zombie plague with a shoot-to-kill attitude. The Muldoons, headedby Shamus Muldoon (Richard Fitzpatrick), feel that the zombies should be quarantined and kept 'alive,' in hopes that a solution will someday be found.

The O'Flynn's, who are clearly outnumbered, are forced to exile Patrick by boat to the mainland, where he meets up with a cynical band of soldiers, headed by Guardsman Sarge (Alan Van Sprang). They join forces and return to the island, to find that the zombie plague has fully gripped the divided community, and the body count is rising.

As the battle between humans and zombies escalates, the master filmmaker continues to reinvent the modern horror genre with wicked humor and pointed social commentary.

Movie Trailer: Step Up 3D

Sunday, April 11, 2010 0 comments

Touchtone Pictures has released the new movie trailer for the upcoming film, Step Up 3D. Directed by Jon Chu, the film will follow the same dance, musical & performing drama shown on the two previous Step Up films. Personally I would say... enough! It's like the film 'Bring It On', every year they try to bring a new version and sequel, and each one is worse than the previous one. For these kind of films, the first one is more than enough. But, if there are people waiting for a new one, well... what the heck!

Synopsis: New York's intense street dancing underground comes alive in eye-popping Digital 3D in the third installment of the "Step Up" franchise as the raw, passion-fueled culture goes global. A tight-knit group of street dancers, including Luke (Rick Malambri) and Natalie (Sharni Vinson), team up with NYU freshman Moose (Adam Sevani), and find themselves pitted against the world's best breakdancers in a high-stakes showdown that will change their lives forever

Movie Review: Defendor

Saturday, April 10, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: Bruined and beaten, arm in a sling, neck in a brace, Arthur Poppington sits in front of court-appointed psychologist Ellen Chum. After making her swear to secrecy, Poppington begins to tell the story of his secret life as "Defendor" - yes, that's an "OR" - spelling is not one of his super powers. By day, Poppington directs traffic around road construction sites, but at night he dons a pair of black tights, a black jersey with a crude "D" duct-taped to his chest, and trawls the streets as his alter ago. As Defendor, Poppington engages in what he believes is a super heroic fight against crime in an attempt to fulfull his unrealized dream of capturing his archrival, Captian Industry - a gun trafficking crime lord who Poppington mistankenly believes is responsible for the death of his mother. Defendor's problems with the law begin with his intervention in a trick gone bad. When coming to the aid of Katerina Debrofkowitz, an underage prostitute, Defendor tangles with her pimp, Chuck Dooney - a crooked undercover cop. By doing so, Defendor bumbles his way into a criminal underwold, and the stage is set for a showdown with Captain Industry.

Starring: Woody Harrelson, Sandra Oh, Kat Dennings, Michael Kelly, Charlotte Sullivan
Directed by: Peter Stebbings
U.S. Rating: R

Woody Harrelson is the perfect man to play a weird role in a weird film, and make it look as real as it can be! I totally love Woody, he's a weird-looking funny man. I enjoy every single of his films.

Woody is back to play Defendor. A nobody trying to be a secret superhero who fights crime every night, just like "Kick-Ass".

Defendor is about Arthur Poppington, a guy who works directing traffic at a construction site by day and fights crime under his secret identity by night. What is Arthur's secret identity? Defendor! A guy in pair of black tights, a black jersey with a "D" duct-taped to his chest. What are his secret weapons? A bunch of marvels, mad bees in a jar, a sling shot and a wood stick. His goal? To catch and destroy Captian Industry - a gun trafficking crime lord who killed his mother when he was just a child.

The truth about all this normal life by day and secret life by night is that Arthur is not 100% ok up there... you know... in his mind. He thinks he's invincible, that guns won't kill him, but he always ends up waking up in a hospital or jail bruined and beaten.

The interesting thing about all of this dual life is that at the end, Defendor helps to bring down a corrupt cop and a complete prostitution and crime organization.

It is not the best plot you would expect (too weak), but it is definitely worth to watch. Woody Harrelson lives his role and makes it look so real! If you're a big Woody's fan (like me), you should take some time to watch and enjoy this film.

What did I like from this movie?

1. Woody's role is simply hilarious. He's the perfect guy for these "mentally challenged" guy roles. De-fen-DOR!!!

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. A weak role. Maybe that was the reason they just released the movie on DVD. I believe that it would be such a funny film if it was based on a stronger plot

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Synopsis: Detective David Starsky is the most dedicated undercover cop working the mean streets of Bay City, California. Maniacally devoted to his job, when he's on duty no crime goes unpunished--and he's always on duty. And that's a good thing, because he has some metaphorically big shoes to fill: his mother was a legend on the force, one of the best cops in the history of Bay City. But while his mom stuck with the same partner throughout her entire career, due to his extremely zealous brand of police work, Starsky burns through partners faster than his beloved Gran Torino goes through spark plugs. Detective Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson is having career issues of his own--he's a good cop, but his hazardously laidback personality and desire for a quick buck don't always get the job done. He has excellent instincts, he just needs a little bit of focus to keep him on the admittedly less profitable side of the law. Exasperated Bay City Police Captain Dobey has found the perfect solution for two of his biggest problems: pair up Starsky and Hutch and put them out on the streets. As soon as the two mismatched crime fighters unhappily begin their first day on the beat as a team, a "floater" turns up on the Bay City coastline. With the help of Hutch's dynamite, street-savvy informant Huggy Bear, the two begin to unravel the mysterious murder case. Investigating their first clue, the boys meet Staci and Holly, of the Bay City Cheerleaders, who are more than eager to help--in any way they can. All signs seem to point at wealthy businessman Reese Feldman, but Starsky and Hutch just can't seem to make a case against him. Unbeknownst to them, Feldman has cooked up a plan to foil the DEA and is plotting the biggest and most lucrative drug deal of his career. The unlikely duo will use their canniest undercover skills, hardcore street smarts and striking good looks to solve the crime and make sure the criminal does the time.

Starring: Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Calvin 'Snoop Dogg' Broadus, Fred Williamson, Vince Vaughn
Directed by: Todd Phillips
U.S. Rating: PG-13

Who could imagine Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson bringing to the big screen one of the best action TV Series from the 70's? Well, yes... I never though of it, but they did it. An not just that! The film brought also such a unique and hilarious supporting cast! Snoop Dogg, Jason Bateman, Vince Vaughn, Juliette Lewis, Amy Smart, Carmen Electra and Will Ferrell.

If you ever watched the original TV Series, you will notice few important things: There were some important similarities and differences.

Similarities? The way they dress and look... I actually had some really good laughs when they showed both couples together, the original one and the new one. They look SO alike that it is so extremely funny!

The car. I think that we can't think of the TV Series without thinking on the red and white "American Muscle" Gran Torino.

Differences? Ben and Owen were far less serious than the original actors!

If you love these two guys, you will definitely enjoy the film.

What did I like from this movie?

1. All the hilarious and bizarre details on this plot
2. The great chemistry between the lead roles
3. The amazing supporting cast
4. The hilarious detail of bringing the old original couple and car to the scene!

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Nothing at all. It was actually really entertaining

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Movie Review: Daddy Day Care

Wednesday, April 7, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: Charlie and Phil are so consumed by their high profile advertising jobs that they are completely missing out on the joys of fatherhood. After failing to excite the public about vegetable cereal, Charlie and Phil are fired from their ad jobs. That means no more expensive day care for their sons at the exclusive Chapman Academy, run by the harsh taskmistress Miss Gwyneth Harridan. While floundering aimlessly in search of employment and tending to his four-year-old son Ben during the day while his wife Kim is at work, Charlie has an idea. If he and Phil can handle taking care of two kids, how much harder can it be to supervise ten? Much harder than they ever imagined. Every kid is different and every one is a hilarious challenge, whether they're suffering from sugar rush, fantasizing about being super heroes, or just demolishing everything in sight, Charlie and Phil soon realize they are in over their heads. Way over their heads.

Starring: Eddie Murphy, Jeff Garlin, Steve Zahn, Regina King, Kevin Nealon
Directed by: Steve Carr
U.S. Rating: PG

Another good and entertaining film with Eddie Murphy. It's been a while since we saw Eddie in a good action/thriller film, or at least, a good adult comedy film. He's been totally engaged in these kind of kids comedy films for few years now, so I would really want to watch him in one of those great films who made him famous.

Daddy Day Care is not bad at all. In fact, is one of the best kids comedy films he's played in so far. I totally enjoyed the film. It is a pretty simple plot, but the script is funny and enjoyable. It will definitely make you laugh and will keep you and your kids entertained.

If you haven't watched it yet, Daddy Day Care is about Charlie, a successful advertisement agent who has recently lost his job. He decides to take care of the house and baby sit his little kid Ben, while his wife works. His friend and co-worker Phil lost his job also. On a day out with their kids, they find an opportunity to make some money as baby sitters. With this idea, they decide to open "Daddy Day Care" a home-based child-care service.

Facing some crazy, bizarre and really funny situations, they will soon progress on their business and will become to a threat to an important school in the area.

This experience will help Charlie to share more and better experiences with his son, know him better and see what really matters in his life. When Charlie and Phil get their job back, they have to stop taking care of all the kids they have been attending, but when Charlie realizes how important this experience has been for him and his kid, he quits... convinces Phil to quit and they focus on their promising Daddy Day Care business.

If you're looking for a good and goofy comedy film, this is a great option to watch.

What did I like from this movie?

1. The film brings a really good cast
2. It is really entertaining, offering some really good laughs

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. It is a simple script, but hey! What can you expect from it! It is a goofy comedy film

Movie Review: The Departed

Tuesday, April 6, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: 'The Departed' is set in South Boston, where the state police force is waging war on organized crime. Young undercover cop Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) is assigned to infiltrate the mob syndicate run by gangland chief Costello (Jack Nicholson). While Billy is quickly gaining Costello's confidence, Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon), a hardened young criminal who has infiltrated the police department as an informer for the syndicate, is rising to a position of power in the Special Investigation Unit. Each man becomes deeply consumed by his double life, gathering information about the plans and counter-plans of the operations he has penetrated. But when it becomes clear to both the gangsters and the police that there's a mole in their midst, Billy and Colin are suddenly in danger of being caught and exposed to the enemy -- and each must race to uncover the identity of the other man in time to save himself.

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Mark Wahlberg, Jack Nicholson, Vera Farmiga
Directed by: Martin Scorsese
U.S. Rating: R

Simply amazing. Martin Scorsese directed one of the best action/thriller films in Hollywood, and it is not just my personal opinion. Four Oscars Awards (Best Picture, Best Director, Best Film Editing, and Best Adapted Screenplay) confirms the great production brought by this talented director and amazing cast.

Something I didn't know about The Departed is that it was a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong film Internal Affairs.

The film takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, where a powerful and ruthless Irish mob boss named Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson) leads his emporium of extortion and organized crime.

Frank introduces Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) to this organize crime at a young age, along with other kids and he becomes like a father to Colin. Colin Sullivan enrolls with the Massachusetts State Police and becomes an important key tool for Frank playing the role of an insider, giving Frank as much information as he gets to protect Frank's business and be a step ahead from any possible police investigations or actions. Soon, Colin gets assigned to the Special Investigation Unit and will be in control of all special actions against Costello's organization.

In the other hand, Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) graduated from Police Academy and applies for an undercover agent opportunity. He's been hired and protected under the secret lead and direction of Captain Queenan (Martin Sheen) & Sergeant Dignam (Mark Whalberg). Billy's assignment is to infiltrate Costello's organization, being part of it and helping Police to turn this organization down.

As both men infiltrate their organizations, war starts trying to identify the leaks and destroy them. At the end, due to a series of events, Colin Sullivan becomes a key part on Costello's detention special operation.

With an unpredictable and unexpected final, The Departed offers 2 hours and 30 minutes of great entertainment. Totally recommended!

What did I like from this movie?

1. The film brings the perfect triple combination: Great direction, strong plot and amazing cast
2. Amazing thriller, intense suspense and really good action scenes

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Absolutely nothing!

I would rate this movie with a 5/5

Movie Review: Ghost Rider

Monday, April 5, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: A motorcycle stuntman, Johnny Blaze, makes a pact with a dark force, selling his soul to save his girlfriend. When the bargain goes sour and the girl isn't saved, Blaze is transformed, gaining raging superpowers. Based on the Marvel comic series.

Starring: Nicolas Cage, Wes Bentley, Eva Mendes, Matthew Long, Peter Fonda
Directed by: Mark Steven Johnson
U.S. Rating: PG-13

It's been a while since we saw Nicolas Cage with a decent haircut, right? He has tried some different haircut style on his most recent films, and the truth is that none of them has really worked. But, no matter how ugly his hair might look, we can't say that he's such a good actor.

Anyway, if Ghost Rider didn't have Nicolas Cage as the lead role, the story of this film would be totally different. He gave life to the film and tried to cover the many different holes on this weak script.

Nicolas Cage is Johnny Blaze, a motorcycle stuntman who was forced to make a pact with the devil on his early years, just to save the life of his father, who was dying with a terminal cancer. Right the morning after he made this pact, his father was healthy and cured from his cancer, but he died that same day on an accident at one of his stunt acts. That day, Johnny left everything behind, especially his true and pure love Roxanne Simpson. He grew up and became a famous motorcycle while Roxanne became a famous journalist. They met at one of his stunt shows and from there on, destiny would help them to share their lives, experiences and tragedies.

The pact? Johnny sold his sold to the devil, and the devil wants to use him to fight his fights and collect those unpaid debts with some other demons. At the end of this fights, the devil wants to get all this power gained by Johnny, but he'll refuse and decides to be the Ghost Rider, just preparing the room for the sequel that is already on the "negotiating and script acceptance" process.

It is actually a good and enjoyable film. If you don't hold it under close scrutiny, it can be really entertaining. Especially because it can be considered an entertaining action/horror film being rated PG-13.

20th Century Fox has released the new movie trailer for the upcoming film Marmaduke. The film is based on the legendary newspaper comic strip drawn by Brad Anderson from 1954 to the present day. The voice of the enormous Great Dane named Marmaduke will be played by Owen Wilson. I still don't know what to think about the film. I can't match the dog and script with Owen's voice, but we'll see how it goes.

Synopsis: For Phil and Debbie Winslow, moving their family from Kansas to the O.C. is a big deal. For their enormous Great Dane "Marmaduke," however, the move means a whole new way of life. It's chaos at home and awkward at work as the Winslows struggle to control their angsty teenage canine.

Here's the new movie trailer for Michael Cera's latest film, Scott Pilgrim vs the World. An action comedy to be released this Summer. I hope I'm wrong, but it seems that it is just another similar role for Michael Cera like the one played in every single of his previous films. No matter what, I really enjoyed the trailer and I believe it will be such a pretty funny film! By the way, it has a really good cast!

Synopsis: Scott Pilgrim has never had a problem getting a girlfriend. It's getting rid of them that proves difficult. From the girl who kicked his heart's ass -- and now is back in town -- to the teenage distraction he's trying to shake when Ramona rollerblades into his world, love hasn't been easy. He soon discovers, however, his new crush has the most unusual baggage of all: a nefarious league of exes controls her love life and will do whatever it takes to eliminate him as a suitor.

As Scott gets closer to Ramona, he must face an increasingly vicious rogues' gallery from her past -- from infamous skateboarders to vegan rock stars and fearsome identical twins. And if he hopes to win his true love, he must vanquish them all before it really is game over.
