Ruh-roh!

Directed by: Raja Gosnell
U.S. Rating: PG

To be honest, I would rather to watch the comics or TV Series from the 70's instead of watching film. It is not that bad, but seriously, if you were a big fan of the comics and TV Series, you would notice immediately that they were way far better than this film.

It is a good film for kids. With monsters and some digital animation, it will help to keep them entertained.

I must say that the characters were well cast. Not because they had a great performance, but because they really looked like the originals.

What did I like from this movie?

1. If you have kids, it offers some goofy and entertaining situations
2. Very colorful

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Far from what we should expect, since it didn't represent the greatness of the TV Series from the 70's

I would rate this movie with a 2/5

Movie Trailer: The Switch

Monday, March 29, 2010 0 comments

Her's the new movie trailer for Jennifer Aniston & Jason Bateman's latest film, The Switch. A romantic comedy to be released this Summer. The interesting thing about this film is that the script looks "in some weird way" similar to the plot of Jennifer Lopez's latest film, The Back-up Plan. So, we'll have to wait and see which one is better. Being such a good fan of Jennifer & Jason, I will definitely add this film to the "must see" list this 2010.

Synopsis: JENNIFER ANISTON stars alongside JASON BATEMAN in this offbeat comedy as Kassie, a smart, fun—loving single woman who, despite her neurotic best friend Wally’s (BATEMAN) objections, decides it’s time to have a baby—even if it means doing it by herself… with a little help from a charming sperm donor (PATRICK WILSON). But, unbeknownst to her, Kassie’s plans go awry because of a last—minute switch that isn’t discovered until seven years later when Wally finally gets acquainted with Kassie’s cute—though slightly neurotic—son.

Movie Trailer: Predators

Friday, March 26, 2010 0 comments

20th Century Fox has released the new movie trailer for Director Robert Rodriguez's latest film, Predators. As we know, there has been only one amazing Predator version, and that was the one with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Robert Rodriguez knows it and that's why he has decided to make give the film a different view and turn, but keeping some original things from the original film. So, we could say, according with his words, that it wouldn't be considered a remake or sequel of the original film from 1987. So, we'll see what new things we'll enjoy from this film. I will expecting the second trailer, since this one doesn't reveal much of the plot.

Synopsis: Royce, a mercenary, reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they've been brought together on an alien planet... as prey. With the notable exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers -- mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members -- human "predators" that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.

Movie Review: Monsters vs Aliens

Wednesday, March 24, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: When California girl Susan Murphy is unwittingly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk on her wedding day, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall. Alerted to the threat of this new monster, the military jumps into action and Susan is captured and secreted away to a covert government compound. There, she is renamed Ginormica and placed in confinement with a ragtag group of other monsters: the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement is cut short, however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country. In a moment of desperation, The President is persuaded by General W.R. Monger to enlist the motley crew of Monsters to combat the Alien Robot and save the world from imminent destruction.

Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Hugh Laurie, Seth Rogen, Will Arnett, Rainn Wilson, Kiefer Sutherland and Stephen Colbert
Directed by: Rob Letterman & Conrad Vernon
U.S. Rating: PG

I always love to enjoy a good animated film. Monsters vs Aliens is one of those films. I had the chance to watch this film over the weekend (in Blu Ray) and it was such a really entertaining time. I should say that it is not as good as some of the latest (and older) animated films, but it did the job.

The battle between monsters kept by the goverment in a secret location and program is being used to fight the aliens who have come to Earth and battle humanity. Who are the monsters? normal humans who have changed their "human" conditions in independent incidents and experiments. The Aliens have decided to come to Earth to recover a precious rock or mineral that crashed in our Planet. Thinking they're a superior race and minds, the aliens could be considered a bunch of show off! Ginormica, B.O.B., Dr. Cockroach Ph.D., The Missing Link and Insect-o-saurus will fight the aliens and have a great time doing it!

Totally recommended for kids and adults! I really had a good time watching it.

What did I like from this movie?

1. Definitely my favorite monster is Insect-o-saurus. I laughed so hard with him!
2. Such a good cast behind the voices and characters

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Nothing

I would rate this movie with a 3/5

Universal Pictures has released the second movie trailer for the film Robin Hood. Starring Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, directed by Ridley Scott.I have to be honest... This is the third trailer watched for the film, and I haven't felt inspired or thrilled to watched it. I really enjoyed the version of Robin Hood played by Kevin Costner, I think it was a really good film. I feel different with this film, maybe it is because I have watched so many films about Robin Hood that I believe this will be just another version among the previous ones. We'll see what happens, I might get motivated at the end and will watch it in theaters.

Synopsis: A telling of the origin of the legendary Robin Hood, the Sherwood Forest warrior who stole from the rich to give to the poor, sticking closely to the facts of the time. Robin is abandoned by his parents as a child and finds comfort and acceptance with the people of Nottingham. The traumas of his younger life leave him reluctant to fall in love, but that changes when he meets the headstrong Maid Marian.

Paramount Pictures has released the new movie trailer for the upcoming film Megamind, starring Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, Tina Fey and Jonah Hill. It's just the first trailer, but so far, it seems to be really funny! So, it will be totally added to my "most see" list for 2010.

Synopsis: Megamind is the most brilliant supervillain the world has ever known. And the least successful. Over the years, he has tried to conquer Metro City in every imaginable way. Each attempt, a colossal failure thanks to the caped superhero known as 'Metro Man,' an invincible hero until the day Megamind actually kills him in the throes of one of his botched evil plans. Suddenly, Megamind has no purpose. A supervillain without a superhero. He realizes that achieving his life's ambition is the worst thing that ever happened to him. Megamind decides that the only way out of his rut is to create a new hero opponent called 'Titan,' who promises to be bigger, better and stronger than Metro Man ever was. Pretty quickly Titan starts to think it's much more fun to be a villain than a good guy. Except Titan doesn't just want to rule the world, he wants to destroy it. Now, Megamind must decide: can he defeat his own diabolical creation? Can the world's smartest man make the smart decision for once? Can the evil genius become the unlikely hero of his own story?

Movie Review: Green Zone

Tuesday, March 23, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: During the U.S.-led occupation of Baghdad in 2003, Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller and his team of Army inspectors were dispatched to find weapons of mass destruction believed to be stockpiled in the Iraqi desert. Rocketing from one bobby-trapped and treacherous site to the next, the men search for deadly chemical agents but stumble instead upon an elaborate cover-up that inverts the purpose of their mission. Spun by operatives with intersection agendas, Miller must hunt through covert and faulty intelligence hidden on foreign soil for answers that will either clear a rogue regime or escalate a war in an unstable region. And at this blistering time and in this combustible place, he will find the most elusive weapon of all is the truth.

Starring: Matt Damon, Amy Ryan, Greg Kinnear, Antoni Corone, Nicoye Banks
Directed by: Paul Greengrass
U.S. Rating: R

I should start saying that if you're a fan of the Jason Bourne franchise and you're expecting it to be another "Bourne" kind of film, you will be disappointed.

I'm not saying that it is not a good film, because it is! But it's not the kind of film played by Matt Daemon and directed by Paul Greengrass. You might as why? For me, the Jason Bourne franchise was focused on the character, the secret agent who lost his mind and tried to recover his life and memories. Green Zone is more about the content and context. A pretty good action movie with a strong political and ethical content about the war in Iraq.

The film is about Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller, a loyal officer focused on accomplishing the missions assigned to his team. He's in charge of finding and inspecting the sites that are supposed to have (hidden) weapons of mass destruction. Miller finds strange that all the sites taken are empty. During a planning meeting, he tries to confirm the information provided by the intelligence sources regarding these sites with weapons of mass destruction. Soon, he'll find that there's something wrong either with the source or the truth involved with the missions assigned.

After following the lead of a piece of information given by a local, Miller and his team will find one of Saddam's top men. They captured one of this man's assistant, but an elite team will take this man out of his command and control. While he tries to find answers about all this situation, he contacts Martin Brown, a CIA leader related with some of the intelligence jobs in the Middle East. they will work together to get access to the people captured and get the information needed to contact Al Rawi.

Miller will find that Al Rawi had contact with the American intelligence before the beginning of the war and provided information about the real program of WMD held by Saddam Hussein.

As said, it is an action film with a strong political and ethical content related with the reasons that pushed the U.S. and the U.K. (among other few countries) to invade Iraq and take Saddam out of the power.

As said before, if you're a Matt Daemon & Paul Greengrass' fan, you must watch the film. Don't expect it to be a "Jason Bourne" kind of film, but you won't be disappointed at all, since you'll get as much and good action as you got in that amazing franchise. Totally recommended!

What did I like from this movie?

1. Pretty basic but strong script, with a good content
2. Great cast and good direction
3. Some really good action scenes and some good suspense

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. Nothing at all

I would rate this movie with a 4/5

Movie Review: Old Dogs

Sunday, March 21, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: Two best friends -- one unlucky-in-love divorcee and the other a fun-loving bachelor -- have their lives turned upside down when they're unexpectedly charged with the care of 7-year-old twins while on the verge of the biggest business deal of their lives. The not-so-kid-savvy bachelors stumble in their efforts to take care of the twins, leading to one debacle after another, and perhaps to a new-found understanding of what's really important in life.

Starring: John Travolta, Robin Williams, Kelly Preston, Ella Blue Travolta, Lori Loughlin
Directed by: Walt Becker
U.S. Rating: PG

Being such a big fan of John Travolta's films, I must say that Old Dogs was really painful to watch. I thought this film would be at least as fun as Wild Hogs, but the truth is that it was one of the worst comedy films I've watched within the last 12 months. I didn't feel any chemistry between the actors. Besides that, the plot was extremely simple and empty. For a moment, I thought that a film like Date Movie or any other crappy comedy like those would be less painful to watch than Old Dogs. Sad, since it gathered such a great cast.

There were just a couple of scenes where I could say I honestly had some really good laughs, but mainly, the film wasn't good enough to be considered a comedy, or at least, a good film.

What did I like from this movie?

1. I enjoyed Seth green, Justin Long & Matt Dillon. A few very funny scenes with these guys

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. The plot was too empty and boring
2. What's up with John Travolta's hair? He looks like a dumb old man with that hair cut! Totally against his role... trying to be a playboy

I would rate this movie with a 2/5

His life is forever changed as he inspires a subculture of copy cats, is hunted by assorted violent and unpleasant characters, and meets up with a pair of crazed vigilantes, including an 11-year-old sword-wielding dynamo, Hit Girl and her father, Big Daddy.

Movie Review: City Island

Saturday, March 20, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: Vince Rizzo is a lifelong resident of the tiny, tradition-steeped Bronx enclave of City Island. A family man who makes his living as a corrections officer, Vince longs to become an actor. Ashamed to admit his aspirations to his family, Vince would rather let his fiery wife Joyce believe his weekly poker games are a cover for an extramarital affair than admit he's secretly taking acting classes in Manhattan. When Vince is asked to reveal his biggest secret in class, he inadvertently sets off a chaotic chain of events that turns his mundane suburban life upside down. Inspired by the exercise, he decides to bring his long-lost ex-con son Tony home to meet the family, and it soon becomes clear that everyone - including his college student daughter, teenaged son Vinnie, Jr., charismatic acting partner and drama coach - has something to hide. A perfect storm of deception, half truths and confusion makes Vince and his family members realize that the truth may not set them free, but it is easier to keep track of than all their well-intentioned white lies.

Starring: Andy Garcia, Paul Diomede, Julianna Margulies, Emily Mortimer, Alan Arkin
Directed by: Raymond De Felitta
U.S. Rating: PG-13

If you think you know what a "dysfunctional family" is, think again because you haven't met the Rizzo family yet! City Island is such a great and entertaining drama/comedy film starring Alan Garcia and Julianna Margulies.

The plot is focused on the Ruzzo Family, their lies, secrets and communication problems. Vince Rizzo (Andy Garcia) works as a corrections officer (he hates it when people ask him if he's a prison guard) but, his real passion and dream is to be an actor since he was a little kid. Working at the correction center, Vince meets Tony Nardella (Steven Strait) , a illegitimate son he never met before. He hides from his wife every time he wants to smoke, since he told him he quit. When he gets the news that Tony can leave the correction center if a family member claims the responsibility to keep him at home for 30 days, Vince decides to take the responsibility and takes him home with the excuse of getting his help to build a new bathroom at the back of his house. Vince is married to Joyce Vizzo (Julianna Margulies) , a housewife who has to deal with all the daily things at home. She hides from her husband every time she wants to smoke, since he thinks she quit smoking also. Vince and Joyce have two kids, Vince Jr and Vivian. Vince Jr is a teenager who is in love with fat women. He secretly visits internet pages of big women and discovers that his neighbor across the street is the star of the site he visits. Vivian lies to their parents saying that she's about to graduate from college, but she's working as a stripper in a night club. When Vince decides to bring Tony to his home. Tony starts detecting all these lies and "double lives" and start making his part trying to push every one on the right way to achieve their dreams. Tony convinces Vince to attend an audition for "non-professional" actors, helps Vince Jr to meet their neighbor across the street, helps Vivian to reveal his secret to their parents and especially, helps Joyce to know that her husband hasn't been playing pocker every night or being out with another woman, but taking acting classes to achieve his dream. The only detail... Tony is the only one missing the reason of Vince's help and attitude towards Tony. Then, everyone discovers the truth, when he reveals that he's Tony's father.

City Island brings an excellent drama plot mixed with a great and smart sense of humor, supported by such an amazing cast. Totally recommended!

What did I like from this movie?

1. The cast selected was perfect for the roles
2. The film offers such a fresh and very entertaining plot and story
3. I totally laughed every time the family gathered together, you could see how "dysfunctional" they are!
4. Vince Jr played such a really funny role, basic but really funny role

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. nothing at all! I really enjoyed the film!

Movie Review: Shutter Island

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 0 comments

Synopsis: Two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, are summoned to a remote and barren island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island's fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.

Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow
Directed by: Martin Scorsese
U.S. Rating: R

Another amazing Martin Scorsese film, no doubt about it. He played his card using his golden boy, Leonardo DiCaprio, and he nailed it again. Shutter Island is not the typical horror movie we usually watch on theaters or TV. This film actually messes with your head, not in a scary, but in a thoughtful way. It makes you think about the whole situation, trying to find what's going on, especially at the end. An exceptional psychological thriller.

I've been trying to find the whole thing about the twist at the end of the film, and the interesting thing is that it's difficult to find a consensus. Everyone got a different point of view about what was happening and especially, the end of the film.

Leonardo DiCaprio's performance wasn't the best, compared with his previous roles and films, but it was extremely good for the film. He delivered the best what Scorsese wanted to expose on this film.

I have my personal idea about what was happening, but I won't tell write it as part of this short review. I will respect people who wants to watch it first and get their own impressions about the film and the twist at the end of the film. If you want to share what you think is the twist and what really happened with Teddy Daniels

Totally recommended! Such a great psychological thriller!

What did I like from this movie?

1. Such a great cast and direction!
2. Amazing plot, it is not a scary movie, but definitely a film that will mess with your head!

Sony Pictures has released the second trailer for Woody Harrelson's latest film, Defendor. Defendor is a foreign (Canadian) comedy drama to be released in DVD in few days, after being acquired and distributed by Sony Pictures. Defendor is about a super hero with NO super powers at all. After making her swear to secrecy, Poppington begins to tell the story of his secret life as "Defendor" - yes, that's an "OR" - spelling is not one of his super powers. Movie Review: Up in the Air

Synopsis: Ryan Bingham, is a corporate downsizing expert whose cherished life on the road is threatened just as he is on the cusp of reaching ten million frequent flyer miles and just after he's met the frequent-traveler woman of his dreams.

Starring: George Clooney, Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick, Jason Bateman, Danny McBride
Directed by: Jason Reitman
U.S. Rating: R

Excellent film. Obviously it wouldn't win an Oscar for Best Picture, but it was totally worth to be at least, nominated.

I felt some empathy for the story, maybe because I DO enjoy to fly and I DO love Airports. I really like that kind of life. I know it has its benefits, but it also has lots of turndowns, some of them are being clearly exposed on this movie.

Up in the Air brings the story of Ryan Bingham (George Clooney), a man who travels all over the U.S. working for a company that helps other companies with the unpleasant process of firing people. He spends more than 10 months per year traveling around the U.S., collecting miles for all these flights, hotels and services. His personal goal is achieve 10 million miles and be one of the few exclusive clients with access to the highest benefits of Airlines and hotels.

His company is trying to set a new remote system to decrease the expenses and time telecommuting, something that of course, he's opposed. His job is unique, it can't be done remotely, and he's willing to demonstrate it. Helping the new team member, Natalie (Anna Kendrick), the one responsible for the new project, Ryan shows her the business and some other important lessons in life. He also learns from her some important and valuable lessons.

Ryan also meets Alex Goran (Vera Farmiga, who looks really beautiful in this film), an executive woman with a similar life style. They arrange their schedules to always meet in different cities and enjoy their new relationship, an open relationship with no ties or responsibilities. Soon, Ryan will notice that his feelings are changing and due to some of the lessons learned from Natalie, he decides to move forward and make this relationship work, adding some more responsibilities to it. On this process, he'll face a cruel reality.

At the end, Ryan learns how to manage and face the new changes and challenges in his life and how to manage his relationship with his family.

I totally recommend the film. It's a smart plot played by such an amazing plot! So pleasure to watch.

A new movie trailer for Dreamworks Animations' latest film, How to Train Your Dragon., has been released Being such a fan of Shrek, I personally expect it to be such a really funny plot with an amazing quality image, especially, being in 3D.

Synopsis: A Viking teenager named Hiccup lives on the island of Berk, where fighting dragons is a way of life. The teen's smarts and offbeat sense of humor don't sit too well with his tribe or its chief... who just happens to be Hiccup's father. However, when Hiccup is included in Dragon Training with the other Viking teens, he sees his chance to prove he has what it takes to be a fighter. But when he encounters (and ultimately befriends) an injured dragon, his world is flipped upside down, and what started out as Hiccup's one shot to prove himself turns into an opportunity to set a new course for the future of the entire tribe.

Release Date: March 26th, 2010

Starring: John Travolta, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Kasia Smutniak, Richard Durden
Directed by: Pierre Morel
U.S. Rating: R

I must start saying that I believe that the person who enjoyed the film was John Travolta. He looked so "cool" for a secret agent with such a bad attitude.

From Paris with Love was an entertaining action movie. It didn't require much brain to follow the film, even though, it had such an unexpected "twist" situation that made it interesting. The most enjoyable from the film some really funny and crazy dialogue lines, especially quoted by John Travolta.

The film is about James Reese, a low ranking U.S. Intelligence member working for the American Embassy in Paris. He's being assigned to work with Charlie Wax, a crazy special Agent who will be working in Paris trying to reveal and destroy a terrorist plan to kill everyone in an important ceremony with the presence of many different important delegates from around the world. When they start finding vital information and people, they will soon find that James has been framed and he's being used to get all the important information and tools to access this important event.

An entertaining film with a pretty standard and decent plot, offering some good laughs and some crazy action scenes.

What did I like from this movie?

1. John Travolta, bringing some of the crazy attitude and style, that same style and attitude that made him famous with Pulp Fiction!
2. The twist in the middle of the film
3. Some really good laughs with the dialogue lines used by John Travolta

What did I dislike from this movie?

1. I didn't like the end as much as I liked the rest of the film

I would rate this movie with a 3/5
